GESPONSERT
Anne Mahlum built and sold Solidcore, a national fitness empire — and now she’s asking what really matters. After achieving financial freedom following her $100M exit, she’s thinking deeply about what it means to live a rich life. From love and legacy to family, philanthropy and mentoring, she’s considering how to spend, give and structure her wealth to make an impact while she’s still alive. In this episode of What Should I Do with My Money? , host Jamie Roô brings Anne together with Victoria, a Morgan Stanley Financial Advisor, to explore values-based wealth planning, giving while living and how post-exit founders can reinvent their purpose for the next chapter of their life. For more information about this episode and the topics covered, check out our episode page and explore how you can connect with a Morgan Stanley Financial Advisor . Tax-loss harvesting: IRS rules stipulate that if a security is sold by an investor at a tax loss, the tax loss will not be currently usable if the investor has acquired (or has entered into a contract or option on) the same or substantially identical securities 30 days before or after the sale that generated the loss. This so-called "wash sale" rule is applied with respect to all of the investor's transactions across all accounts. Technology stocks may be especially volatile. Artificial intelligence (AI) is subject to limitations, and you should be aware that any output from an IA-supported tool or service made available by the Firm for your use is subject to such limitations, including but not limited to inaccuracy, incompleteness, or embedded bias. You should always verify the results of any AI-generated output. Because this strategy expects to hold a concentrated portfolio of a limited number of securities, a decline in the value of these investments would cause the portfolio's overall value to decline to a greater degree than that of a less concentrated portfolio. Equity securities may fluctuate in response to news on companies, industries, market conditions and general economic environment. Companies paying dividends can reduce or stop payouts at any time. Real estate investments are subject to special risks, including interest rate and property value fluctuations, as well as risks related to general and economic conditions. Private equity funds typically invest in securities, instruments, and assets that are not, and are not expected to become, publicly traded and therefore may require a substantial length of time to realize a return or fully liquidate. They typically have high management, performance and placement fees which can lower the returns achieved by investors. They are often speculative and include a high degree of risk. Investors can lose all or a substantial amount of their investment. They may be highly illiquid with significant lock-up periods and no secondary market, can engage in leverage and other speculative practices that may increase volatility and the risk of loss, and may be subject to large investment minimums. Any type of continuous or periodic investment plan does not assure a profit and does not protect against loss in declining markets. Since such a plan involves continuous investment in securities regardless of fluctuating price levels of such securities, the investor should consider his/her financial ability to continue his/her purchases through periods of low price levels. Asset Allocation and diversification do not assure a profit or protect against loss in declining financial markets. When interest rates rise, bond prices fall; generally the longer a bond's maturity, the more sensitive it is to this risk. Bonds may also be subject to call risk, which is the risk that the issuer will redeem the debt at its option, fully or partially, before the scheduled maturity date. The market value of debt instruments may fluctuate, and proceeds from sales prior to maturity may be more or less than the amount originally invested or the maturity value due to changes in market conditions or changes in the credit quality of the issuer. Bonds are subject to the credit risk of the issuer. This is the risk that the issuer might be unable to make interest and/or principal payments on a timely basis. In this podcast episode, we dive into one of the most controversial topics in the diabetes community - carbs. If you've been following along, you know I'm all about those carbs. However, I also believe that there's no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to nutrition. Carbs were a significant part of my upbringing and athletic lifestyle, but when I was diagnosed with diabetes at 19, all I heard was how to avoid carbs. This episode is for those of you who, like me, want to discuss how to reintroduce carbs into your diet. We'll tackle the mental and emotional challenges that can arise when you're told to avoid something that was once a big part of your life. If you are eager to reintroduce carbs back into your life with diabetes, this conversation is for you. Let's break down the barriers and explore how carbs can fit into your diabetes journey. *Disclaimer: Nothing inside of Keeping it 100 Radio or our resources is intended as medical advice. Building muscle with type 1 diabetes, what is there to know? We all know there are a lot of factors to consider with exercise and blood sugar management, but what about when it comes to actually seeing results? Meet Anthony Baklouk. Anthony is a fitness trainer with his bachelors in Health Science. He's been training clients in person and online for the past 8 years inside his private training and meal prepping company, Baklouk Training. He helps his clients get Bak on Track so they can achieve their goals and sustain them long term through weight training and addressing daily habits. Although Anthony does not live with T1D himself, he has been my and my fiance's trainer for the last 2.5 years and he's taught us everything we know about gaining muscle, which is why I wanted to bring him onto the show. Inside this episode, Anthony and I sit down to discuss the foundations of building muscle, where most people get it wrong and how to get started in your own journey. SHOW NOTES ⏰ (1:07): Introducing today’s guest ⏰ (1:40): What got you into the fitness space? ⏰ (4:08): Who do you mostly train? ⏰ (4:40): When people say they want to ‘get toned’, what do they mean vs. what does that actually mean? ⏰ (6:24): Why is it hard for people to do this on their own? ⏰ (8:40): Outside of going to the gym, what else are you focusing on with your clients that make your approach sustainable? ⏰ (10:58): What are the basics of building muscle? ⏰ (12:40): What are some easy ways to amp up protein? ⏰ (14:41): With the lifting component, you mentioned hitting each muscle group throughout the week, what are the main muscle groups you are referring to? ⏰ (15:44): Anthony talks about how I’ve taught him a lot more about dealing with people with T1D ⏰ (17:27): Taking in the cycle component ⏰ (19:31): Going back to the nutrition piece - are there other important components for muscle growth in those other macronutrients? ⏰ (21:55): Is there anything else that you encourage for your clients for that optimal performance/results? ⏰ (24:00): Realistic timeline of results ⏰ (25:35): Can you explain more about the advice we hear online of “I need to go into a deficit to lose weight or lose fat”? 1 Ep 50: Three Factors to Consider Tracking to Support Your Blood Sugar Management (Outside Of Carbs & Insulin) 25:05
When we're initially diagnosed with T1D, we're lead to believe that essentially the only three numbers that matter are the number of carbs we're eating in our meal, the number of units to take of insulin, and the number on our meter. But when we take a holistic approach, we can see that there's so much more to the journey. We always hear, "there are 42 things that impact blood sugar" - well not for nothing, but why aren't we considering them in our every day decisions? While I'm not here to tell you that you should be considering every single one in every single daily dosing decision, there are a few things that should be top of mind and we're breaking it all down in this weeks episode!
