#93: As a chef in New York City who specializes in opening restaurants, Ashley Rath (she/her) has years of experience in the restaurant industry. And as a person in recovery, she speaks openly and honestly about substance use disorder and sobriety, especially in the workplace. Once she started sharing, not only did she discover that other folks were in recovery, but her candor let others know that it's ok to ask for help.
Check out the episode to hear the conversation with Ashley, including:

  • The intensity of the hospitality industry, and why many folks turn to substances in that environment.
  • How her role as Executive Chef has allowed her to set the ground rules to create a safe space in the kitchen for herself and others.
  • The reality of seeking treatment as a professional in the hospitality industry, and the difficulties that prevent folks from getting care.
  • The best advice she received while in treatment: Embrace the boredom.
  • Asking for help is not a problem, and having a problem is not a problem; we are all human.
