Stress is more than what you worry about
Manage episode 383651118 series 3525678
Taking care of your health - physically and mentally - has never been more important. Stress is on the rise in the US. Statistics suggest that 75% of Americans have experienced stress, and most of those say that it is taking a toll on their mental and physical health.
We’re told to “manage” our stress. But what does that really mean?
Stress is complicated. It challenges us to learn, grow, and move forward. But it can also bring us down, deplete our energy, and hold us back. Today we are going to define stress and help you readily identify when your body is in stress mode. That way, you can master your stress and live a healthier, more energetic life.
Building strong bodies and minds is our mission at Strand Fitness. And helping our clients manage their stress is one way we help them reach their fitness and health goals.
In today’s episode of The Longevity Gym, we are going to dive into what stress really is. Because when you are more aware, stress becomes more manageable.
- Our culture normalizes stress and narrowly defines it. As a result, we miss opportunities to control it and manage it.
- When we learn what stress really is, we open ourselves up to greater strength, health, and well-being.
- Managing stress has many health and fitness benefits. We move better, we sleep better, we think better, we learn better - to name a few.
- Stress disrupts the balance in our bodies. When we learn how to rebalance our bodies after stress, our lives feel in balance too.
- Stress is not just what we worry about. There are many types of stressors - real and perceived.
- When we become more aware of stress, we become more powerful in managing and controlling it in our lives.
Recording this episode has been personal - for stress has been my nemesis for many decades. I know firsthand that stress can be tricky. It’s your friend one day - challenging you to learn, grow, and move forward. The next day, it is like a villain - robbing you of your energy and motivation.
