Singapore’s ruling party has proven exceptionally adept at accommodating global shifts, economic pressures, and changing popular sentiments — without significant democratisation or political liberalisation. A new cycle of managed renewal is in the works again, with 49-year-old technocrat Lawrence Wong slated to take over from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
