Are you holding yourself back because of fear, feelings of imposter syndrome, and self-imposed ageism? There are plenty of obstacles to achieving our goals without us adding elaborate "stories" based on "what-ifs" and fear. Let’s dispel some myths, and lean into the self-reliant power of getting older (and wiser). In this episode, I make a case for making friends with fear (with a bit of recognition and acceptance), examining the underlying lie of imposter syndrome, and using the wisdom and experience that come from getting older to reassure ourselves that we have what it takes.
As you strive to start a new venture, pursue a passion project, or pivot in your career, remember that there are assets and positive effects of aging. You’ve walked through fear, you’ve shown that you can achieve milestones, and all that experience can be the foundation for your next big venture.
Welcome to my reflections from the bright side of the beat.

Journal Prompts:

  1. What do you know for certain about yourself? Make a list of the skills, personality traits, and passions that you feel certain about and can use to build on.
  2. Write about a fear as if it will come true and then reflect on what you would do and how you would handle it. Then, say goodbye to that fear, and let it go.
  3. Is there anything you have yet to achieve that you will regret not achieving later in life? Explore some first steps that you could take to move in the direction of that dream.
