Dawn Butler never set out to become an MP because there were no role models, but she joined the Labour Party when young and still enjoys campaigning, listening to people and debating just as ever. School friends recognised this quality, though she did not see it herself, looking back. Failure to get a seat in Hackney provided all the skills and possibilities to be a member of parliament, and she won seats in Brent, first 2005 and then 2015.
