When you're never going to actually win the argument about your entire accomplishments versus your historical rival, except by just tagging on more unique things you did, then you do things like this.
Negotiate your way ( most likely) into being the flag bearer for the entire country.
When typically it is someone whose main focus is Olympic sports and who does not have worldwide sports fame already.
Also fairly common Is that the bearer is someone that we are learning the story about because he or she is the flag bearer. Most of us didn't know it until that moment.
Very atyypically would be a person that is already a superstar in the sports world. Maybe for countries with small contingents but not for the US. Going back to 1992 no American men's basketball player has been the flag bearer.
LeBron James is an attention whore who believes that if he stacks up enough firsts most people will finally think he's better than Jordan.
He's not. Jordan was 100% in the finals. And MJ didn't play longer and longer and longer because he was settled with what he was. He couldn't chase a future LeBron he didn't know about.
Never mind that he didn't think of, because of course he didn't, that for athletes in less lucrative sports, being the flag bearer can mean the difference between a few lucrative deals comparatively for them that helps them get past their financial struggle.
LeBron's off the court antics and judgment are a joke.
