Host: Lisa E

Guest: Natural Brown

EPISODE SUMMARY

This podcast is dedicated to celebrating the journey of black women to embrace their natural hair, with our host, Lisa. E, aka Natural Born Sister, who inspires black women to groom and confidently flaunt their natural hair.

In this episode, Lisa talks with Naturel Brown who shares the story of her transition to natural hair, particularly highlighting her "big chop", the support she got from her partner, and how she was able to equip herself with the knowledge to navigate through that phase.

SHOW NOTES

Natural's transition 8 years ago to natural hair was a major event for her, as she decided to cut her hair to do it. Although she had support, there was a level of typically subtle but notable judgments from those who perceived it to be unappealing as she defied the hair norms used to define women. This added to the challenge of knowing very little about natural hair. However, undeterred, Naturel sought out information about her hair and pushed on grooming her natural hair to date.

Learning more has taught her more about her hair textures, hair porosity, and specifically efficient ways to care for her hair. Generally, social media has also been a contributing factor to this issue worsening the rather unfair prejudice against people of color simply based on their hair. Topics highlighted from this episode include;

· [01:45] Meet our guest today, Naturel Brown.

· [03:10] A question that started the journey to natural hair.

· [07:00] About Naturel's hairstyle and hair care.

· [13:25] The pressures of society's expectations for Black hair.

· [15:22] About Naturel's multiple hair textures.

· [17:49] What does Hair Porosity mean?

· [21:47] The Big Chop; Naturel's support from her partner.

· [25:40] How Naturel experienced racial hair discrimination at work.

· [31:50] Final thoughts from Naturel.
