Host: Lisa. E

Guest: Ketisha Philbert

EPISODE SUMMARY

This podcast is dedicated to celebrating the journey of black women to embrace their natural hair, with our host, Lisa. E, aka Natural Born Sister, who inspires black women to groom and confidently flaunt their natural hair.

In this episode, Lisa features Ketisha Philbert, a mom from Grenada in the Caribbean, and she narrates her journey to a full-blown DIY natural hair care routine. She talks about the vivid societal stigmatization of natural hair in her community that results from the grooming of women to have little appreciation of natural hair, even from childhood.

SHOW NOTES

After relaxing her hair for so many years, Ketisha started her natural hair journey in 2021, observing that her hair was thinning out due to the use of relaxers. Undeterred by the high cost of maintaining natural hair in Grenada, she cut her hair and began to find cost-effective ways to maintain her natural hair.

With much research and experimentation, Ketisha developed hair products like shampoo, deep conditioner, and curling cream, through DIY methods using food from her kitchen. Interestingly, her hair quality has remained impressive and she even offers some of these products and recipes free of charge to help women in her community groom their natural hair. Nonetheless, listeners who have ideas to help out women in other countries afford the best products to maintain their natural hair can reach out to Lisa on Instagram @naturalbornsistah. Key points discussed in this episode include;
