Sarah Hancock, PhD
Dr Sarah Hancock is a research analyst at the University of Adelaide in the School of Public Health. She completed her PhD in her native New Zealand in public health nutrition: her research focused on the role of nutrition in oral health and general health, measuring nutrition knowledge for health in New Zealand families and health professionals, and understanding multiple barriers at individual and societal levels families with children experience in trying to "eat well". A particular area of interest for Sarah are the barriers health professionals experience in providing dietary advice. Sarah is a thought leader in advancing the role of nutrition for the prevention of poor oral health; she terms dental caries or tooth decay as the earliest manifestation of the effects of a poor quality diet on metabolic health. She is an advocate for dietary lifestyles that minimise the intake of highly refined, ultra-processed foods for the prevention of poor oral health and chronic diet-related disease that are culturally appropriate and sustainable for population health. Alongside her research work, Sarah is currently training to be a registered health coach at the Holistic Performance Institute, a world-leading provider of training in health coaching, sports nutrition and clinical nutrition practice.
