The Power of Close-Knit Communities: for Happiness, Belonging, and Keeping Romance Fresh.
Manage episode 381819924 series 3485637
Ivor interviews Steve who talks about the ingenious techniques he has developed to keep his romantic relationship fresh.
Steve then talks about how he has managed to develop a close-knit community of a few hundred people in his city.
Ivor believes that us humans have bought into the "happy ever after" paradigm- through observing our own parents (or caregiver). He believes the need to find the "perfect partner" leads them to push themselves towards success over friendships, which ultimately leads to disillusionment, break-ups, and divorce, and that one person can never fulfil what a whole community can give.
Ivor talks about his own struggles with overcoming this "fake" story in his head, how his mind tricked him (even since this podcast was recorded) to favour success over relationships.
The book he references is "Sex at Dawn: The Prehistoric Origins of Modern Sexuality" by Christopher Ryan and his wife, and Cacilda Jethá.
