Roughly an hour before O.J. Simpson went to Nicole Brown Simpson’s condo in Brentwood and killed his ex-wife and Ron Goldman, Simpson drove to what would become the most infamous McDonald’s in the world.
With him in the passenger seat of his Bentley was Nicole’s friend Kato Kaelin, who lived in a bungalow on O.J.’s property on Rockingham. The trip was eery and odd and played an integral role in the timeline of events on June 12, 1994, and in the trial that made Kato a household name. In this episode of One Degree of Scandalous, Kato returns to that very same McDonald’s on Santa Monica Blvd with Tom Zenner for the first time in over 30 years. See, hear, and feel the emotions Kato describes having as he recalls everything from that fateful night.
Also, in this episode, Tom and Kato take fans on another journey to another one of the pivotal sights of the O.J. Simpson saga — Mezzaluna, the former hip and chic restaurant in Brentwood Ronald Goldman worked, and where he departed with the glasses Nicole’s mother had left there. This is a pulse-pounding and mesmerizing episode that people who grew up watching the trial and following the events have been waiting for.
Was returning to these sights a therapeutic process for Kato — or a journey that regretfully triggers more questions about why O.J. took him there in the first place? The answers are right here.
