Backyard weddings are back in a big way this season.

And many engaged couples, or a generous friend or relative, with a decent size outdoor area, are considering planning their wedding in a backyard.

There are heaps of benefits to planning your wedding in a familiar, accessible, meaningful and flexible venue.

From the intimacy of keeping your loved ones physically close to you and spending more time with them to the relaxed atmosphere and convenience, backyard weddings seem to be an easy choice.

But while deciding to have your wedding in your own or a relative's backyard can on the surface to be a brilliant plan, it requires very careful consideration and a weighing up of what it means in reality.

Today I’ll teach you:

  • some of the most common misconceptions about backyard weddings, and
  • the things you need to work out, work through and assess first.

And then in part 2 of our special on backyard weddings which (published on Tuesday 9 April 2024), I’ll share your checklist for what you’ll need to arrange, order, plan and coordinate to pull your backyard wedding dream together.
