The Misconception of Marriage Ending Porn Habits

My Friday Flashback post over on the Generous Husband today is “A Plethora of Porn Lies”.

I didn’t mention a lie that is common among single Christian men. They assume that getting married will put an end to their struggle with porn. He figures once he can have sex with a woman he loves, he will lose any desire to look at other women. This does happen at first, but it doesn’t last. Few men make nine months, and many fall back into porn use well before that.

Men don’t return to porn after marriage because of any failure by their wife. The problem is that porn has created unrealistic expectations. Yes, that means what he wants, but the bigger issue is that he got use to having porn any time he wanted it. Porn is never busy. It’s immediate gratification, and that’s never going to happen with a real woman. If he gets home from work before his new wife, and he’s horny, porn is there. If his wife is sick, porn is there. Separated for a few days? Porn is there.

As I said in my post to the men, a wife can do things that increase or decrease a man’s temptation to look at porn. But his choice is still on him. And if he brought a porn habit into marriage, no amount of sex with his wife is going to end that habit.
