“I made plans and God laughed at them!” Amanda remarks as she looks back over the past 3 years in college as a student athlete. But honestly, this motto extends back much earlier than her college years.

Near-and-dear to my heart, I’ve had the privilege of being a passenger alongside Amanda in her young 21 years as her Mom. The journey she travelled to become a student athlete at Jacksonville University was ripe with ups and downs as most all college athletes’ stories are but it speaks to the process of letting go and letting God. This concept is hard for most any of us certainly! Learning to trust the process isn’t something that comes easily but I’m so glad that Amanda is sharing her path with others in such a gracious and giving way.

Amanda was redirected numerous times in the light of chaos and unexpected events as she went through recruiting to play college volleyball during the Covid timeframe where the world was shut down. She held firmly to her belief that “if I don’t try it, I’ll never know”, giving her opportunities to open up her story and allow those God winks to step in and drive. Flowing with that belief opened up (and continues to open up!) possibilities that she couldn’t have dreamt up!

As Amanda walks her final year as a D1 college beach volleyball player, she knows that her identity isn’t tied to her sport but is anchored to a much larger presence. The gift that continues for her is a delicate balance of working hard while letting go and allowing for redirection, something we can all learn from. I’m so honored to be her Mom!
