135.🏫 Nostalgia 101: 90s Swing Revival & Punk Ideology w/ Prof. Matt Landis
Manage episode 463582642 series 2893880
Dan & Manny welcome Prof. Matt Landis to teach them all about the 90s Swing revival.
“ Anytime a musical movement is chasing authenticity you can almost guarantee they're going to be bullshit ”
-Matt Landis
Matt takes Dan & Manny on a deep journey that includes the beginnings of Swing music in the 30s, to the historic events of The Zoot Suit Riots, he explains the core of what it means to be Punk, the impetus of the 90s Swing Revival, and it's absolute failings. Through it all, Matt also tells some amazing stories of his time in the Brooklyn-based cabaret-punk collective The World/Inferno Friendship Society, which honesty can be a whole other episode.
At the end, Dan & Manny ask the pivotal question, "How do you rank the Rocky movies."
Big thanks to Matt for coming on and truly making this one of the best Nostalgia 101 episodes.
