Today on the DO or Do Not podcast, we have Dr. Margaret Wilson, Dean of ATSU Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. ATSU is the oldest/founding osteopathic school and is located in Kirksville, Missouri. We first interviewed Dr. Wilson 2 years ago on episode 21 and are excited to have her back on the podcast. Today’s episode is focused on the pre-medical perspective. We will discuss with Dr. Wilson topics such as what makes a great osteopathic school candidate. She will talk about non-traditional applicants and answer questions such as “is it ever too late to apply to medical school.” She will talk about what makes her school special and why students should consider ATSU-KCOM. Finally, she discusses why many pre-medical students do not know about opportunities in osteopathic medicine and what DOs can do to improve understanding of the profession.

Especially for new medical school applicants, understanding the field of osteopathic medicine and the DO degree can be difficult due to ongoing challenges in public awareness. In this podcast, we take a clinical direction with our questions for Dr. Wilson to shed light on these topics. Dr. Wilson discusses some of the current challenges in bringing public awareness to the DO profession along with her personal experiences that have shaped her as an educator and an osteopathic physician. In this podcast, she will provide illumination to the audience on the DO profession for the general public and interested premeds who want to join the DO community. We hope you enjoy this episode.
