#083 – Hear the perspective of Shyam Kumar Lama from Umbrella Organization Nepal. He is the project director of Umbrella, one of the leading organizations in Nepal working in child protection and education since 2005. Shyam is telling us about the reasons behind trafficked children and why it is complicated to solve the problem. He also shares his experience from what the consequences are for children growing up in institutional care.

More than 80% of children living in orphanages have at least one living parent. Shyam explains, why parents give away their children and how complex it is to solve the underlying causes of this dynamic. We also talk about the role of international volunteers – the other side of the story. What if you want to help children abroad? What is the best way to do it? Should you reframe from orphanages completely? Shyam has a clear message for those who want to help.
