City Cast is the daily, local audio companion you knew DC needed. Washingtonians are gritty, proud, and resilient — necessary qualities for a community facing issues that range from an affordability crisis to the fight for statehood to the movement for racial justice… and useful qualities for a region full of whip-smart people, dynamic culture, and constant change. Washingtonians are deeply passionate about our city, whose story is still being written, and City Cast DC is here to tell it. Every weekday morning, our hosts Michael Schaffer and Bridget Todd will engage people from all over the eight wards in conversation about DC’s crises and its beauty, both literal and figurative. It’ll have the feel of eavesdropping on an energetic and informative coffee shop chat, except that with City Cast DC, consider this your official invitation to listen in.

On Monday, the National Park Service announced plans to close the Dupont Circle park during this year’s Pride celebration. But after overwhelming backlash, they reversed course the very next day—confirming that the park at Dupont Circle would remain open for Pride festivities. It’s just one more wrinkle in what’s already a complicated Pride season under the current administration. Few people can speak to that better than DC Pride’s founder Deacon Maccubbin. He’s here to tell us everything that’s changed and everything that’s stayed the same in the last 50 years of DC Pride. Vote for City Cast DC in Washington City Paper's "Best of DC" roundup! Your bus lines are changing! That’s right – starting on June 29th, the bus lines that you take to go to work, to see friends, those are getting a pretty major makeover. Every last line in the Metrobus system is gonna have a new name. Most of them are gonna have new routes. Some will have new stops. It’s like the big bang of buses. Now, we had a lotta questions about this, so we talked to Allison Davis who leads Metro’s Office of Planning about the thought behind this and how you can prepare for the upcoming changes. Also, if you have questions or concerns you'd like us to raise — about your bus lines or anything else — leave us a voicemail at 202-642-2654 or send an email or voice memo to dc@citycast.fm. For decades, DC’s laws have been built to give tenants some muscle against landlords who might try to sell their buildings. But now that’s changing — with proposals before the DC Council that would shrink TOPA, the Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act. In the old days, the politics of this would have been pretty clear, but nowadays there’s a twist, since some progressives have come to worry more about the supply of housing than the fate of individual tenants. Emilia Calma from the DC Policy Center has studied the issue and she’s here to explain. Want some more DC news? Then make sure to sign up for our morning newsletter Hey DC. At the end of last week, there was a big switcheroo in an office that’s really important to local DC: The US Attorney, which in our city also acts as the local prosecutor. Donald Trump abruptly pulled the nomination of Ed Martin, the January 6 firebrand who’d been the most controversial appointee in memory. But the replacement was also quite a shock: Jeanine Pirro, the bomb-throwing Fox News personality. What does this mean for us? NBC4’s Ted Oberg covers the office and he’s here to explain. DC’s Mayor is slowly rolling out her budget — and it’s all about trying to brace the city for the unprecedented Trump-era challenges that are hitting Washington’s biggest employer, the government.
