77. Why You Need to Hear the Story of the TWO WOLVES Now
Manage episode 446461816 series 3475812
In this week's Yes Mujer Build It episode, I replay a past episode that tells the Cherokee indigenous tale about the Two Wolves. This timeless tale that has been passed down from generation to generation is a story about two wolves who are in a daily struggle.
I am replaying this particular episode because we are in a time now where paying attention to our confident and calm wolf would be valuable for us.
I often use this story with my clients and within my coaching circles. This story invites a new perspective.
Picture this: within each person resides two wolves—an embodiment of contrasting characteristics. On the one hand, there's a calm, loving and confident wolf. On the other hand, there's an angry, uncertain, and fearful wolf.
Every thought we entertain, consciously or subconsciously, FEEDS one of these wolves. If we indulge in thoughts of fear, uncertainty, doubt, shame, or guilt, we nourish the fearful wolf. Conversely, when we focus on thoughts and emotions of confidence, courage, worthiness, love, and gratitude, we nurture the confident and loving wolf.
By being consciously aware of our thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and actions, we can make deliberate choices. Our culture doesn't always teach us to prioritize the nourishment of our confident wolf, which is why we need to make a deliberate decision. We have the ability to decide which wolf we want to feed the most, not just today but every single day. Through heightened awareness, we can make a conscientious effort to feed our confident, loving, and patient wolf more frequently.
The wolf who wins this daily battle is the one YOU DECIDE TO FEED. Who will you choose to feed today?
In this episode, you'll learn:
- The American Indian tale of the two wolves symbolizes the internal struggle between fear/doubt and confidence/love.
- Why self-awareness is important in feeding the desired wolf through thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and actions.
- How acknowledging and integrating all parts of ourselves is needed for healing.
- Which role does culture play in which wolf we feed the most.
- How to consciously feed our confident wolf.
- How to connect with both wolves with a GROWTH WORK assignment at the end of the podcast!
