This is Episode 75 of the VulnerABLE Podcast! In 2013 she would lose her only son, the grief and pain of it would affect her in more ways than she could imagine. Now she's helping families realize how important appreciating their time together is! Growing up she faced bullying and teasing just like most of us do, and it would continue up until high school when she finally started to come into her own. But the vulnerability she would face in 2013 would change everything, from her marriage, to her health and eventually her career. That’s because the day after Christmas that year she would lose her only son in an ATV accident. He was only 15 years old, the grief and pain of his loss was more than enough to deal with, but she also had to deal with the vulnerability of people not knowing what to do or say. It’s taken a toll on her physically, and it’s taken years to find a doctor who could see it that way. Now she’s doing her best to find purpose behind his passing by helping families recognize the importance of appreciating each other, in all the big and small ways. This is Episode 74 of the VulnerABLE Podcast! She grew up with parents who survived the holocaust, and would lose her mother in her teens, she's faced her share of trauma and loss. Now she's helping people work on their physical pain and find more joy! Both her parents survived the holocaust, but growing up she didn’t exactly understand the pain and trauma her parents carried. Reflecting back she carries a lot of guilt for some of the ways she acted, and took things for granted. At 12 years old her mother would be diagnosed with breast cancer, and at that time it was something that wasn’t as understood and people carried a lot of shame towards it. She would lose her mother about 5 years later, which brought a whole new set of challenges to her life. Throughout her late teens and early 20s she endured multiple sexual assaults, and would hold onto that pain in fear of judgement from others. The only thing she can attribute to helping her through it all is something she learned from her mother, grit. Now as a physical therapist, and dancer she’s helping people of all ages overcome their pain, and find more joy in their lives. This is Episode 73 of the VulnerABLE Podcast! She grew up in a traumatic home, this would create trust issues and cause her to hold onto her pain for many years. Now as a therapist she's helping other women work through their own trauma and find success! Growing up her parents argued a lot, and at times even threw things at each other. To cope with it she would dig her head into her books and gain a lot of independence at an early age. It created trust issues, and made her build walls to avoid letting anyone in. Then at 18 she was car jacked, kidnapped and almost raped at gun point. This would be a breaking point for her, and she would decide to finally seek help from a therapist. Years later, after starting a family, a friend on their death bed would remind her that she needed to chase her dreams because we never know when our time will come. With the support of her family she would go back to school to become a therapist herself, as she had always been fascinated with psychology. Now she’s helping women heal from their trauma, and work towards the spectacular success they’ve always dreamed of. This is Episode 72 of the VulnerABLE Podcast! To the outside world it seemed she had the perfect life, but on the inside she was miserable. After her marriage ended her transformation began, and she started creating the life she truly wanted! At 14 years old she would lose her grandfather, someone who was a role model and father figure her entire life. This loss would make her realize that she was now on her own, but she took the lessons she learned from him and pushed forward. She would go to college, get the great career, buy the home and get married. On the outside it seemed like she was living the dream, but on the inside she was miserable and constantly questioning her decisions. The pain she was feeling would lead to weight gain, and a lack of clarity in her life but she just continued to push through. She finally found some solace in beginning to live a healthier lifestyle, but her marriage was falling apart and would eventually end in divorce. This would be the point in her life where her transformation would begin. Now she’s a women’s empowerment coach, helping women gain clarity, create a plan to step into their power, take action on fulfilling their purpose and the courage to stand in their authentic truth. Now she's a coach and speaker who's helping people achieve their biggest dreams! In her senior year of college she had finally figured out what she was going to major in, and was engaged to be married. Then everything was swept from right underneath her. Her Fiancé would back out of the wedding, and the college would call her to tell her that her financial assistance was done. She was left feeling broken, and unsure where her life was going to go from here. This introversion she was forced into made her begin to think about what she really wanted, what her passions were. It would lead to her starting her first business, and since she’s started multiple. She’s had her fair share of failures but continues to learn from all of them. This is Episode 70 of the VulnerABLE Podcast! When the sudden passing of her husband happened, instead of help and support she was told she was grieving the "wrong" way. Now as the Bad Widow, she's helping others grieve their loss in a better way! She grew up with 3 younger brothers, one of which had a genetic disease which meant they needed to be careful around him even though they weren’t sure why. Then when she was 25 years old her brother would pass away, and she was left feeling a bit lost because for many years the attention was on him. It caused her to begin looking at the world and life a different way, which kind of isolated her from her peers. At the same time it caused her to be empathetic towards others at a very early age. Years later her husband of almost 20 years would be diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. The end of his life was approaching suddenly, this forced them to begin taking chances, and live life as fully as possible until he was gone. Then after his passing she found the grieving process very difficult and was surprised to find very little support or information on how to process what she was going through. She was told she was doing things wrong, and she gave herself the name Bad Widow. Now she’s using her experience and things she learned in the process to help others grieve difficult loses in their own lives. This is Episode 69 of the VulnerABLE Podcast! Being diagnosed with MS would make him completely lose himself, and be lost in anger and pain. Now he's reinventing himself and finding ways to live with his condition, and take back control! When he moved to a small town in Colorado at 10 years old, he didn’t exactly fit in. Growing up he had moved around a lot, and this little town felt very different and weird in some ways. Having a name like Kim didn’t help matters because in those days it was seen as a girls name, and this would cause him to get beat up and bullied quite a bit. At an early age he’d find his confidence when he got a job as a DJ at a radio station. He would stay in this industry for over 30 years, and he loved it dearly. Then in December of 2004 he would start to notice some changes in his sight and body, which he would blame on the stress of his job. A few months later he would be diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and his life would be completely flipped upside down. At first it made him bitter and angry, as it was hard to go from someone who was always in control to someone who was losing it. Now he’s taken back control of his life, and although he can’t cure his condition he does what he can to keep it at bay. He’s also become an author, and is continuing to re-invent himself. This is Episode 68 of the VulnerABLE Podcast! From dealing with bullying, to depression, and coping with it using drugs and medication. To building a strong mindset, and now helping others to overcome their own mental illness struggles! Although she doesn’t remember it, at around 5 years of age her babysitter would lock her in a closet, and this would be her first experience of trauma. Then during grade school she would be severely bullied by her peers, which caused her to grow up with low self-esteem. In high school in an effort to fit in she would start drinking and doing drugs so that people would accept her. At 16 years old she was sexually assaulted, and this would begin a spiral of drugs and alcohol to suppress any emotions or feelings she had. Then in her early twenties she would lose both her parents, and continue to cope with drugs and medication. It all led to a point where she was about to take her own life, and an insane coincidence would bring her off the ledge. This would be the point where she decided to do something about her mindset, and work through her depression. Now she’s helping people realize that they can overcome their depression, and mental illness through their diet, exercise and mindfulness practices. 1 Episode 67 - Shawn Anderson - How His Never Give Up Attitude Led To Helping More Of Us Go The Extra Mile 47:18
This is Episode 67 of the VulnerABLE Podcast! In college he'd end up with an injury that would keep most of us from moving forward. Now through his Extra Mile movement, he's helping other push their own limits to achieve their goals and dreams! While attending college, during an intramural football game he would run head to head with another player from a field that was backing onto his. He would shatter his cheek bone and end up with swelling in his brain, which meant an induced coma. For most people this would leave them wondering how to move forward, but for him he just returned to school like nothing happened. Something within him told him that he couldn’t quit, and he was provided with the insight that if he could overcome this he’ll be able to overcome anything in life. It’s allowed him to take on challenges that most of us would think are crazy, and continuing to push even when giving up seemed like that smarter decision. This is Episode 66 of the VulnerABLE Podcast! She would start building walls at a young age, and in an attempt to suppress it she would gain a gambling addiction. Now she's using her story and experience to help others overcome addiction! At 10 years old her mother would break the news that her father was leaving, and this would be the beginning of her putting up walls. Then at 14 years old she would begin to lose a few people that were close to her. This would cause trust issues, and a need to be independent, which would lead to her going down a path that she wasn’t prepared for. She has struggled with addiction for most of her life, from drugs to gambling. What she didn’t realize is that her past was driving her addictions, because she didn’t want to face what happened or let anyone in. Then in the last few years she’s completed rehab, and is getting her life together. This is Episode 65 of the VulnerABLE Podcast! At an early age he was molested, and when he went to his family about it they disowned him. Now he's in law school, working to become a lawyer so he can help those who suffered a similar past! As a child he was molested by someone his family knewz. When he tried to go to his family about it they called him a liar and literally disowned him. He was placed in group and foster homes, which led to him being angry and bitter. It didn’t make sense that his family didn’t want him, and why he became an outcast. As he started to heal from the past he joined the army and it would be a part of his life for the next 24 years. This is where he’d find a family, and eventually he’d begin to repair the relationship with his parents. Now he’s enrolled in law school, and wants to become a lawyer to help people who have suffered a similar past. This is Episode 64 of the VulnerABLE Podcast! She struggled with infertility, and if that wasn't enough, through the treatment they discovered she had Thyroid Cancer. Now she's coaching women to achieve the confidence and energy they dream of! Her biggest struggle in life came about 12 years ago when she had to face infertility, and she would hide it from everyone for a decade. It was something she felt like no one would understand, and in some ways there was shame felt about it. She was able to confide in one close friend, but that was it through the entire process. The strength it took to go through the process was unbearable at times, and if you ask her it was her mental resilience that carried her through. Then just when she thought she had enough to deal with she was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer while going through her infertility treatment. But she decided not to give up, and rely on the people she trusted most. This is Episode 63 of the VulnerABLE Podcast! Growing up his parents separation made life challenging, then a few years ago he would suddenly lose people he loved dearly. Now he's using his experience to coach others to turn tragedy into triumph! At an early age he can remember moving between his mother and father’s houses, basically living out of a suitcase. Their separation was anything but amicable, and he can remember having to break up fights. In his teenage years he fell into hanging with the wrong crowds, leading to drinking and drugs. He would go between his mother and father, because neither could handle him, until he finally started to get his life together. This is Episode 62 of the VulnerABLE Podcast! It took performing surgery with a 101 degree fever to make her realize she might be burning out. Now she's helping other peak performers with reducing stress, restoring wellness, and rebooting efficiency! There she was standing in the OR performing a surgery, with a temperature of 101 degrees, and having one of the nurses passing her cold medicine under her mask. In her mind there was no other choice but to keep pushing, as she was always a high achiever. When she woke up the next morning, she could barely get out of bed, and this is when she realized that maybe a break was needed. This would be the beginning of her starting to shift her mindset, and questioning if burning yourself out is worth it. Now she continues her career as a surgeon, while also being a peak performance coach. She wants to help people reduce stress, restore wellness, and reboot efficiency. This is Episode 61 of the VulnerABLE Podcast! He has a son who battles drug addiction, and at only 31 years old he loses another to a sudden death, changing his life completely. Now he's helping us all find answers to life's toughest questions! His earliest memories of feeling vulnerable were every time he ended up in a new school because his family moved around a lot. It was the awkward feeling when the teacher called his name, and he knew everyone was looking at him. The next time he felt it was when he realized that his passion for playing baseball wasn’t going to take him to the majors. These paled in comparison to what was to come later in life. His eldest son would end up diving pretty deep into drugs out of high school, and has struggled with his addictions until now. His middle child would suddenly die of a ruptured artery at 31 years old. The trauma of both of these events would change his life completely, and bring him new perspective.
