In this final episode of The Native Experience podcast, we’re joined by Rana Ebrahimi, National Manager of the Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network (MYAN).

Rana shares her journey from working with UNHCR in Iran to advocating for the rights of young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds in Australia. With a wealth of experience in humanitarian aid, multiculturalism, and social inclusion, Rana discusses the evolving challenges of bridging generational and cultural divides in today’s diverse society.

In our conversation we discuss how trauma and cultural shifts shape intergenerational gaps in migrant families; the rise of “third cultures” among second-generation migrants and their impact on identity; and Practical strategies for fostering dialogue between generations and leveraging cultural intelligence.

Rana Ebrahimi is the National Manager at MYAN. She leads MYAN to advocate for young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds’ rights and best interests in policy and practice.

Rana is an expert in social inclusion and humanitarian ethics. She is the first Iranian woman to be a National Head of Office for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Iran. Rana is also the President of Equal Employment Opportunity Network, Diversity Equity and Inclusion Chair of Rotary District 9800.

Whether providing consultative and advisory services or leading functions within complex global and national organisations, she leads teams to deliver on key directives to grow and diversify. An expert in social inclusion and humanitarian ethics, Rana has headed strategic engagements to partners and built a shared vision with networks of stakeholders, funders and community groups to deliver transformative community and social development projects.
