Chicago Public Media today announced 14 layoffs and the end of Vocalo radio broadcasts. Why is this such sad news for the local media landscape? Chicago aldermen advanced a measure to give the City Council final say over ShotSpotter funding. Would this technology be better utilized on a ward by ward basis? Marj doubts the effectiveness of the technology.
