Welcome to Episode Fifty Two (Season Three) of the Executive Career Jump Podcast with your host, Andrew MacAskill!

Our guest in the hot seat today is Lee McQueen.

Lee is probably recognised most as the Winner of the BBC’s The Apprentice 2008 and was the first candidate to set up a business from scratch with Sir Alan Sugar.

He has gone on to be a successful entrepreneur and is Founder and CEO of Raw Talent and more recently of Phoenix51, a powerful employee technology platform that enables organisations to make data-driven decisions through every stage of the employee journey. Lee has 20 years of experience in talent acquisition, including in the assessment and competency framework space, and has a genuine passion for helping organisations to select future talent. Underpinned by a core understanding of the importance of talent analytics, Lee is firm in his belief that a data-driven approach will define the next epoch in talent assessment. Lee is a passionate Tottenham Hotspur fan, who is married with 3 young daughters, including identical twins.

In this episode you will discover:

  • Why you shouldn’t “fake it till you make it”.
  • Why the ethos and values of a prospective employer are as important as having the right skill sets for the role.
  • What some of the challenges and differences are in running your own business as opposed to running a business business in a corporate environment.
  • Why he believes his new data driven approach is going to change the face of recruitment.
  • Why being able to pivot is vital to business success, even survival in today’s world.
