Who is the "real you"? The you right now with your current insecurities, fears, and limiting beliefs living your current life? Or could the real you be the person living an extraordinary life, free from your current inhibitions and self-imposed limitations?
And is it really possible to learn to create an extraordinary life -- while still being you?
It's a mind-bend, but Todd Herman, author of The Alter Ego Effect: The Power of Secret Identities to Transform Your Life, believes it absolutely is.
In the book, Todd describes two selves: the Trapped Self (the part of you that doesn't feel like it's showing up in life like you want, avoiding certain things or feeling pressured to act in a certain way) and the Heroic Self (the part of you that feels like you're doing what you want and doing it for your own reasons).
Backed by scientific research and real-life stories from his work with elite athletes and top performers across industries, Todd explains how a carefully crafted, emotionally resonant alter ego can help us bypass our trapped selves so we can show up the way we need or want in specific fields of play.
In this episode, I share a passage from Todd Herman's book that will lay to rest concerns about alter egos being fake or inauthentic.
That's the paradox, isn't it?
Which version is the "real us" -- our Trapped Self or our Heroic Self?
After this episode, you'll want to read this book to learn more.
