RadioStPete.com news director Nanette Wiser chatted with Grego Anderson about blues, his new CD, songwriting and his love affair with Gulfport. Catch Grego 8/10 at the Gulfport Tiki 3-6 pm, the debut gig with my new trio - Grego and The Lovebirds (Marty and Bonnie Fouts)
Grego Anderson is a seasoned musician and graphic designer who spent 25 years in the vibrant music scene of Austin, Texas. Now based in Gulfport, Florida, Grego continues to create and innovate, blending his extensive musical background with his passion for storytelling through song. His new album, "The Gulfport Troubadour Sessions," is a testament to his enduring talent and artistic evolution.
Beyond music, Grego is an award-winning designer, illustrator, and painter. He runs a successful freelance graphic design business and manages Mojohand.com, the world's largest online blues music art gallery, apparel, and poster shop. His impressive client list includes legends like BB King, Buddy Guy, Alligator Records, The House of Blues, Guitar Center, the Bradenton Blues Festival, actor Hugh Laurie, and Def Leppard's guitarist Phil Collen.
Grego's artwork and music have been widely recognized and featured on the television program "The Art of Living" and multiple episodes of the iconic show "Songwriters Across Texas." His art has also appeared in numerous films and TV shows, most recently on "Reservation Dogs."
Musically, Grego draws inspiration from a wide range of genres, from the Texas country blues of Lightnin' Hopkins to the songs of Townes Van Zandt, John Mellencamp, and Tony Joe White. Grego is on a mission to promote and champion Gulfport as a haven for original music and singer/songwriters, and in what better place than a city that once boasted John Prine as a proud resident.
