HISTORYically St. Pete with Rui Farias is a weekly conversation where the St. Petersburg Museum of History executive director explores the truths, and myths of the people and events that created the Sunshine City.
In this podcast, Rui Farias talks with Will Michaels about Williams Park. Michaels is the former executive director of the St. Petersburg Museum of History and worked with numerous St. Pete organizations (museums, preservation, pier, waterfront) that have shaped today's city. The author of The Making of St. Petersburg chatted with Rui about Williams Park history and evolution - as the City's first park (Town Square), the 1893 Park Improvement Association, 1895 the first bandstand, 1910 City of St. Pete's role in the care of Williams Park, the 1953 William Harvard Bandstand, the Pleasure Club incident, the Royal Scotch Highlanders end of WWI, political rallies, markers and memorials as well as the vision for Williams Park and improvements. https://www.stpeteparksrec.org/williamspark/
