Episode 13: Eduardo Garcia-Charged with Love
Manage episode 419715237 series 3546096
In this episode you will meet my dear friend, Eduardo Garcia. A celebrity American Chef, Avid world class hunter, surfer, fisherman, and wild foods explorer.
We met up here in Ventura late spring 2024. Eduardo, my wife Kelly and I had a sunset-moonrise beach cooked dinner in a sandy shack on the beach in West Ventura. It was so cool to see the fire reflect in Ed’s eyes seeing his curiosity and hunger for wild outdoor adventure. The next day we paddled out at Rincon surf break and no shit, we were the only ones out! The perfect little waist to chest high sets rolled in and yes, Eduardo paddled into one, perfect form.. and with style and grace Eduardo went pumping down the line for 100 yards. It was so f’n cool!
In the episode Eduardo talks about his mom and dad and growing up in Bozeman, Montana, where his father was a fisherman and chef, and his mother was an astrologer, Montessori teacher, and author. He tells the story of his dad, Manual Alfredo Garcia Castilla “Poppy” and how he gave him good sound advice that Ed will later use in his life’s journey. Eduardo helps us see the best in ourselves.
Through a variety of creative mediums — including food, film, speaking, and experiential activations — Eduardo Garcia helps people expand their sense of possibility and realize their potential
We talk about his journey of over 10 years of yachting where he worked as a chef on various private yachts, allowing him to explore surf breaks, new cultures, and many different ethnic cuisines from around the world.
You will hear how he almost lost his life doing what he loves. In 2011, while bow-hunting elk in the Montana backcountry, Eduardo stumbled upon the dry remains of a bear. Attempting to remove a claw with his knife, he received a severe electrical shock from a hidden 2400-volt power line beneath the bear’s carcass. Knocked to the ground and severely burned to near death, he was alone and miles from help, Eduardo got up and took his first step towards what would ultimately be years of recovery and rehabilitation.
A feature length documentary film was made about this accident. It is called Charged. You got to see it!!
Since then, Eduardo has doubled down on his mission to make food an intracule part of every adventure.
Eduardo Garcia’s story exemplifies courage, adaptability, and a love for life and food that transcends physical limitations.
As an entrepreneur Chef Eduardo has been busy crafting delicious salsas all the way back to 2008.
As Eduardo said “A meal, I realized, is more than what we eat. It’s a tool for building culture and sustaining community, and the most memorable are those meals you took the time to prepare yourself”
