BONUS EPISODE: SEASON 2, EPISODE 7: Meet Stewart and his Mum Lesley
Manage episode 461272565 series 3638579
In this bonus episode we meet Stewart and his mum Lesley. Stewart was diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of 8 followed by a subsequent diagnosis of a skull tumour when he was 22. He is now 34.
Stewart and Lesley talk openly for the first time about the impact of cancer on them both as individuals and as a family. Lesley recalls being labelled as an overanxious mother prior to Stewarts diagnosis, and the challenges of juggling day to day life and work after his diagnosis whilst dealing with the fear and uncertainty which accompanies having a child with cancer. Stewart reflects on how different it felt for him having a serious health condition as a young adult in contrast to his childhood experience, and feeling he had 'more to lose' as an adult. Stewart and Lesley explain that they have never talked about the impact the cancer had had on them before now and, on reflection, they wish they had. Stewarts' advice to the listeners is "Talking is healing"
