The Disturbing Case of Mary Emily Cage
News of the Times Episode 390 | 1851
In today’s episode it is 1851 Suffolk. The cage family are renowned in the village for the loud arguments and fights between James Cage and his wife Mary Emily cage, and also for Mary’s many departures with other men. In her last excursion, she brought her 16 year old daughter with her who became pregnant.
Mary has returned back to the family home, with her pregnant daughter, and labourer James cage has become suddenly quite poorly with vomiting sessions and bouts of mania.
His carer, Mary Emily Cage, has expressed her wish for him to die quickly – and he does.
The funeral procession is all in place when everything is halted.
In investigations into her history, it is discovered that of her 14 or 15 children, only five remain.
We explore this disturbing case of Mary Emily cage and also take a quick look at a similar case in our further particulars session, also from 1851, with a woman whose husbands all seem to die.
