I am excited to bring you my first podcast interview with my daughter Taneya. After months of asking, scheduling and rescheduling, the stars finally aligned and, the rest is history. Taneya is the oldest of my three children and pretty much the only girl in our family of many, many boys. In her words, “I wouldn’t trade those hooligans for anything”, but I'll let her tell the story of growing up on a Pueblo reservation; as a young Indigenous woman, her life, educational path and fitness journey . I hope you find my conversation with Taneya, funny, cringe-worthy and inspirational.
I also want to apologize to my friend and fellow content creator, Aisha Smith. I had the opportunity to be interviewed by Aisha on her amazing podcast, “You’re on Mute with Aisha." In my last podcast episode, I mentioned our interview, “Appropriately Awkward with Mike Garcia” and her podcast title several times but kept mispronouncing her name. I do apologize Aisha, but like you said, “no harm, no foul”. If you would like to catch my interview with Aisha, you can find her podcast at the link below.

Aisha, our good friend Alina, and I, meet on occasion to have breakfast. We talk about our collective works, and how we can support one another and our platforms. We met at “The Shop Breakfast and Lunch" just right off Central Boulevard, in the Nob Hill area of Albuquerque. It’s a little breakfast spot, perfect for what the two call, “peopling”. I think that means, "scoping people out" in Rez terms. It's small, crowded but the food makes up for the wait. Aisha has a history with the place and always raves about it. In her words, "Tasty, fresh, in season, comfortable environment. Chef Izz cares about his ingredients and food. Impossible to choose poorly! Local, and partners with other local businesses, also super community driven." I had Huevos Rancheros with red and green chile, because Christmas is not a flavor. Alina had the duck hash, and Aisha had the Lemon Cornmeal Pancakes. It's four blue corn pancakes resting on lemon curd, topped with berry jam, fresh berries, whipped butter, and maple syrup. Aisha let us have a taste before she dug in, and yes, it was delicious. If you're in the area, check it out, you won't be disappointed. Below is the link to their website for more information and photos to drool over.
