STORY 2: NOW OPEN: Suwanee's Town Center on Main and DeLay Nature Park
On Saturday night, Suwanee celebrated the grand opening of its new 25-acre Town Center on Main and DeLay Nature Park. The park, part of a decades-old vision, features a large lawn, elevated bridge, veterans’ monument, two ponds, a beach volleyball court, and a connecting tunnel to the older Town Center Park. Residents enjoyed various activities including football, beach volleyball, and a screening of "The Greatest Showman." Mayor Jimmy Burnette expressed pride in the park’s completion, while Serenity Medina praised the park's family-friendly amenities. Her daughter, Kali, loved the park, highlighting its success in entertaining both kids and adults.

STORY 3: Gwinnett Sheriff's Office considering new jail — or renovating the existing one
The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office is considering a major overhaul or replacement of its aging jail, which is over 30 years old. Chief Deputy Cleo Atwater presented this to the county budget review committee, highlighting the need for modern facilities to meet the demands of Gwinnett's growing population. The Sheriff's Office is requesting $175.9 million for 2025, up from last year’s request. They face challenges including increased jail operations costs due to new state laws, rising jail population, and difficulties with recruitment and retention. The department is exploring new construction and renovation options to better support modern supervision needs and improve security.
