Text: Prov 15:6-9 ESV

6 In the house of the righteous there is much treasure, but trouble befalls the income of the wicked.

7 The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so the hearts of fools.

8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is acceptable to him.

9 The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but he loves him who pursues righteousness.

- Prov 15:6-9 ESV

RIGHTEOUSNESS AND RICHES

Most likely, those who live and act according to God's wisdom see the natural benefits of his choices. They avoid the disastrous consequences of evil choices (Prov 10:8–11). They acquire wealth honestly and keep it as coming from the Lord. They conduct themselves as stewards of what the Lord has given them. As a result, the Lord blesses the house of the righteous with treasure. As the psalmist testifies,

“Praise the Lord!

Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,

who greatly delights in his commandments!

2 His offspring will be mighty in the land;

the generation of the upright will be blessed.

3 Wealth and riches are in his house,

and his righteousness endures forever.”[Psa 112:1-3]

However, money obtained by wicked efforts results in trouble. Solomon explains, “Whoever is greedy for unjust gain troubles his own household, but he who hates bribes will live.”[Prov 15:27] The book of Proverbs establishes that rejection of God and His truth is the primary mark of "foolishness" that leads to future trouble (Prov 1:7; 12:1–3).

The righteous will bless others by his words. He speaks wisely and others benefit from his words. He speaks the truth and shares it freely. This is certainly true of a believer who shares the gospel with others. He presents the facts of the gospel. Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, was buried and was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. (1 Cor 15:3–8). It is also important that believers, who are Jesus' witnesses, do share the truth about Jesus and what He has accomplished in their lives (Acts 1:8). Fools ignore or reject the gospel message. Therefore, they could not share it with others.

The wicked are not honest in their hearts. His religiosity is just a show. God won’t accept that which is merely an outward show for the heart and spirit. They are not done in love and reverence for Him. On the other hand, the prayers of those who sincerely honor the Lord (Proverbs 15:9) please Him. And, He hears their prayers. A pretentious spirit is not only unacceptable but offensive to God. When the wicked pretends to honor God, his efforts are described by the Hebrew word which means something "disgusting." (Prov 4:13–14) In fact, his entire lifestyle is an "abomination" as seen in the next verse (v.9). Hollow gestures from those who refuse the Lord's truth don't please Him. Instead, they make Him angry. The righteous are richly blessed and honored while the fool will end up in shame and condemnation.
