If we have not gone through it ourselves, we only see divorce through the eyes of a bystander. Although we know how difficult it must be, we never know its extent and what happens behind closed doors. In this episode, I talk with Attorney-turned-Divorce Coach Julie Rountree about what divorce coaching looks like for a Family Law Attorney like herself. She also shares why it’s essential to hire a Divorce Coach when you’re going through a divorce and a few tips for the HR Department to help support their employees who are going through a tough time.
As a family law attorney, Julie has represented clients in countless divorces and helped clients navigate these challenges for over 15 years. Although she was their legal advocate, she never truly felt capable of managing clients’ issues when it came to the emotional part of a divorce. Julie found herself struggling as an attorney working with confused, intimidated, and anxious clients who were so overwhelmed with court hearings, opposing counsel’s demands, and organizing financial documents – in addition to feeling the trauma of divorce. Her clients felt helpless, and her career became stressful and demanding. She started to lose focus of her own reasons for practicing family law. After several years of needing a change, Julie made it a priority to help clients sort through the emotional part of a divorce, become more involved in their cases, and thrive in the post-divorce transition once the lawyers and judges were out of the picture. She knew she had to reinvent the divorce experience by providing support to her clients, as well as guidance, focus, and tools for a peaceful transformation. Julie became certified as a Divorce Coach and Divorce Transition & Recovery Coach. Today, her practice is devoted to helping men and women who are simply overwhelmed by the divorce process and ready to gain clarity, confidence, and the ability to move forward with grace.
