Manage episode 406081867 series 3521325
Christians. Sisters. Best Friends.
Our prayer life is so important. Without prayer, our walk with God becomes stale. Keeping a constant communication open with God is a vital way of knowing which way God is calling you. We need to seek God's guidance in all aspects of our life. Even when we lose our keys or feel nervous in a strange environment. Talking to God about our shortcomings, asking for forgiveness or for God to reveal our weaknesses to us even when we can't see them for ourselves. Our prayer life demonstrates our relationship with God. How well do we really know him? How do we see God? In this episode Melissia and Christina talk about these things, as well as when to pray and what Jesus says about prayer. They discuss using the Bible for confirmation and to fleece or not to fleece.
Matthew 6:5-18
The Lord’s Prayer
5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. 7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9Pray then like this:
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
10 Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread,
12 and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Fasting
16 “And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 17But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
2 Peter 1:19-21
'We also have the prophetic word strongly confirmed, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Above all, you know this: No prophecy of Scripture comes from the prophet’s own interpretation, because no prophecy ever came by the will of man; instead, men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.'
