×Ezekiel ends with full salvation, God's people in God's place, in God's presence, God in the midst. It is a promise of the future, but also one that is in part fulfiled now. We see the people of God, God's place, and God's presence.
Jesus came preaching. His message was the good news of God's Kingdom that has drawn near to a lost world in him. We see in Mathew 4:12-25 the dawn of the Gospel, the disciples Christ called, and the declaration that he makes that in him the Kingdom of God is at hand.
The Seven Trumpets of Revelation are God's warnings to sinful man, sounding through history. The 5th an 6th Trumpets are demonic activity and war, deeply destructive. Yet through them God's people may know his peace. But while they sound loudly, the ungodly world hears not, and refuses to turn to God.…
All blessings flow to God's people from God's presence. In Ezekiel 47 we see the curse remove, and the grace of God flowing rich and free. We see that all God's people are saed by grace, Jew and Gentile, and that the one people of God is made up of people saved out of every nation.
Our Lord was led out by the Spirit to be tempted in the wilderness. We see in Matthew 4:1-11 how he succeeded where Israel failed. We see how he has met for us the temptations to doubt the provision of God, the providence of God, and the power of God. He is not only our example, but our champion and our King.…
God is working out his purposes in history. In Revelation 8 we reach the end of the first cycle, the Seals, and before embarking on the second, the Trumpets, we see the value of prayer. Then the Trumpets, the warnings of God's wrath, begin with the curse on nature graphically depicted in striking symbols.…
The Church worships. We see in Ezekiel 46 the pattern of worship, the propitiation at the heart of worship, and the participation of God's people in worship. We see how these themes are reflected in the worship of the Church today.
Before Christ entered on his public ministry, John the Baptist came ashis herald. John called people to prepare for Christ's coming with repentance. He warned the hypocrites, and spoke of the crisis to come when Christ appeared. In Matthew 3 we see the man, his message, and the Messiah.
Revelation 7 gives us two pictures of the Church; the Church militant and the Church triumphant. We see the Church militant sealed as God's own, and the Church triumphant before the throne in glory.
God calls the Church to a life of worship with God in Christ at the centre. In Ezekiel 45 we see the portion of the Church, the Princes of the Church, and the Purity of the Church.
Christ has come. He came into a world where he was opposed by those who held power, and welcomed by those who reverently received God's Word. In Matthew 2 we see reverence, true and false, differing responses to Christ, and the refuges of the Christ.
The scroll of history is unfurled; what does it show? We see the Gospel conquests, we see war and suffering, we see martyrdom. "How long?" cry the martyrs, and Christ answers them - until the last martyr is slain. Then comes the end, the great day of his wrath.
God's Church is his temple, his dwelling-place. The church is therefore holy, and that holiness is to be respected. God is the portion of his people, and their eternal inheritance. We see all this typified in Ezekiel's temple vision.
Matthew presents the Lord Jesus to us as Son of Abraham, Son of David, and Son of God; as the one in whom are fulfilled all the promises made to Abraham and David, who is God with us.
The church exists as God's temple because of God's grace. We see in Ezekiel 43 the return of God's glory, the remembrance of his mercy, and the reconciliation of the cross. Without the blood of Christ, there is no forgiveness, and no hope, but in his blood is plenteous redemption.
