In this episode I had the pleasure of chatting with the one and only Gardner Jeff who you will all know as being the wonderful carer of The Chunks. The Chunks are famous on the internet and have been made so since Gardner Jeff realised they were helping themselves to his organic crops that he was growing on his land. Gardening has always been a passion of Jeff's and it was important for him to continue the family tradition of growing organic fruits and vegetables but when this happened he wanted to know who the culprits were. The help from a video camera quickly revealed the cheeky chunks who are groundhogs but also allowed Jeff to capture incredible footage which he now has a whole raft of and spends lots of time editing and adding music to tell the story of their daily antics and preferences at their sweet picnic table. Gardner Jeff is a wonderful advocate for wildlife and very vocal about how humans and wildlife can live together harmoniously. He shares his story and more of an insight into The Chunks and Friends and also about his upcoming book which has an important message for the world! Happy Listening! Fiona X Support the show…

I adore the opportunity to chat to and share the wonderful work being done by young people and in this episode I was so lucky to chat to Elena from Nashville Kitties. Elena is only 17 years old and she is flying the flag high for the next generation of cat rescuers and fosters. For the past 2 years Elena has with the help and support of her family opened up her home to many fosters and given them a wonderful chance of a great life far removed from the streets where many of them were found. Elena shares her story of how she started fostering, how easy it is to start and some tips on how to make your home foster friendly. With a little encouragement she believes anyone can try and maybe they just might like it. She filled me in on what it is like living in Nashville for her and many street cats. Saving so many little ones has been an experience for Elena and she shares the up's and down's of letting the little ones go even if you have fallen in love with them. Understanding that letting go will free up a space for another one to have a home is crucial but hard none the less. Elena is mature beyond her young years and in my opinion a complete breath of fresh air, doing what she does is out of nothing but love and kindness and really gives hope for the next and future generation that people can care and will do good in the world. Please enjoy listening to this episode and go check out her Instagram page to follow her adventures with her kittens and just give her some support and thanks for what she is doing! I had the honour of speaking to Megan in this episode and you may know her as mom to Pebbles the blind cat! Pebbles is a sweet little angel and has the most wonderful personality. She was found in a bad way along with her siblings after being dumped, sadly a too often occurrence where Megan lives. Luckily Megan who is a vet technician came across Pebbles in time at the clinic where she worked and prevented her from being euthanised as it was felt she could not recover from her problems and that it would also be expensive. Thankfully Pebbles was spared and despite her problems which caused her to be blind she thrived in a loving home and has never looked back! She enjoyed a full life even going on harness walks and dressing up in numerous costumes. Megan also shared with me the struggle and journey of her other cat who is an FIP survivor. You will learn a lot about this disease and treatment as well as hearing all about Pebbles and her early days to now. Please follow this sweet girl on Facebook Pebbles the Blind Cat | Facebook also Instagram Pebbles the Cat (@pebbles_the_blind_cat) • Instagram photos and videos and she even has her own website Pebbles the Blind Cat - Discovering the World Through Different Eyes (pebblesthecat.com) please do give her some love. In this episode of the podcast I welcomed Jessica to the show and she is the mom of the wonderful Draven the therapy cat! I have personally followed Draven for such a long time even before launching the podcast so it was an honour to have his mom on the show. Draven just turned 10 years old in May this year and had a fantastic time celebrating. He deserved to do so because Draven is all about selflessness and kindness as he works hard as a certified therapy cat to give comfort and love to those who need it most. Since he was young he showed through his laid back temperament that he was so suited to this role and has not looked back since. Jessica explains all about what a therapy cat is, what it involves and how your cat can become one. She shares some stories about Draven's many visit to care facilities, rehabilitation centres and how together they fund raise to give back to the community in so many different ways. Jessica herself fosters on a regular basis and does all she can to give a good life to baby bottle kittens and hopes that with her round the clock care they can look forward to as good a life as Draven. Draven is special, that is easy to see but he is also beautiful and everyone should have a Draven in their life, especially if you are in hospital or feeling under the weather. This big boy would bring you lots of comfort and joy, just don't forget the treats! Find out more about Draven and follow him here on his amazing Facebook page Draven the Therapy Cat (facebook.com) and perhaps spend some time reading this lovely article too Meet Draven the Therapy Cat | Hill's Pet (hillspet.com) and you can find out more about Love on a Leash which is the non profit that Draven is signed to for his certification Love On A Leash® – Volunteer pet therapy certification Happy Listening! The future for many cats is bright because of the 2 wonderful ladies I had the pleasure of chatting to in this episode of the podcast. Alysa and Danielle had been involved in rescue work for much of their lives and chance brought them together through a mutual friend and so a friendship and mission to help save cats began! Setting up their non profit was a daunting experience and one neither of them had faced before but here they are 2 years later and still going strong. Based in Pitsburg the ladies explained how feral cats and stray cats is an every day issue and people often just do not see what is right in front of them. Many of these cats are also friendly and have either been dumped, are lost or their owners moved away. They long for a home of their own to thrive in and often even when at capacity its hard to say no. What can you do when you know a cat is friendly and adoptable and you have no space, you have to try and do something and this is something that Trash Cat Rescue face all the time. It is heart-breaking but also heart-warming when things work out for the best and they see a cat go off to their forever home to become someone's treasure. The slogan for this incredible organisation is "Making one persons garbage kitten another persons forever cat" and that is what they do best! Those who have listened to my podcast for sometime will know that Chris Roy was a previous guest. He has come back once again to update everyone on a new and exciting launch which by the time this episode is aired will have been live for 5 days! The new project that Chris has been working on for sometime is the wonderful Doobert Store. Now many of you may wonder why this is so exciting but this is not just any store and is one with a difference! The Doobert Store will allow you as consumers to purchase pet food and supplies online with the click of a button, just as you would do with your regular shopping on stores such as Chewy or Amazon however Doobert as they always do are helping animals and so with each purchase a whole 5% will be paid to a nominated shelter, rescue organisation. You can purchase the same goods as you normally do but by choosing to use Doobert an organisation of your choice will benefit. All that organisation has to do is sign up to Doobert and that is completely free to do and once they are registered the money will surely start rolling in! Organisations who purchase their own food supplies through Doobert can even nominate themselves as the beneficiary of the 5% and so would receive monies back for buying their regular food or supplies. For anyone with pets they will know that they can easily spend a lot each month and so it makes it even better knowing that whatever amount you spend is being paid forward to help animals in need. Chris as always explains in detail how it works and it really is so simple! Rescues should enrol on the site and tell all of their supporters about it because all those $5 donations would and can amount to a lot over time. Check out the store at Doobert and see the products on offer and start shopping! Check if any of the shelters you support are listed and if not ask them why not! Happy Listening! In this episode I had an early rise to chat with the lovely Sayla one of the founders of Cat Adoption Foundation in Australia. This is a special rescue who rescue, rehome and rehabilitate cats and kittens in needs. Their mission is to create a No-Kill Australia with the help and support of pet owners and the public. Rehoming is not always the best solution for people and often they need a helping hand to enable them to keep their beloved animals. This is an issue particularly when it comes to changes in laws or when landlords impose bans on renters having pets. The organisation is run by an all volunteer team who all have different skill-sets and bring their own something special to the table, making them all rounded and able to work diligently together focusing on the areas they are best suited to. Their mission statement is "Fostering A No Kill Nation" which is a play on words as Sayla explains but really the words say it all as we know fostering saves lives! I hope you will enjoy hearing all about the incredible work this organisation does day to day and how they really make a difference. Happy Listening! Fiona X Support the show…

There are some people who are put on this earth to make a difference and Esmerelda is one of these people. I call them Angels without wings! Esmerelda is on Instagram as The TNR Girl but she does so much more! Of course TNR is vital as the humane way of dealing with cat overpopulation but Esmerelda goes beyond the normal call of duty. Esmerelda uses her voice to speak out about the injustices animals face each and every day and is constantly working to try and create change for the better. Even her career path is shaped so that she will devote her life to helping animals in any way she can. In local communities Esmerelda supports caretakers of colonies by finding ways to continue being their lifeline when it comes to food packages and medical care. She does not just help a colony then leave them, she understands that the issues often run deeper and assistance and support is much more than providing TNR. During the "Crazy Cat Lady" movie Esmerelda was documented and the viewer can follow her day to day life and see first hand many of the issues that she and others who do the same work face. After having to battle the aftermath of the LA injunction it has been left for people like Esmerelda to try and fire fight the damage that has been caused. You can hear Esmerelda share her story of how she started trapping and helping and what drives her every day and learn more about this injunction and what has or has not been accomplished since its removal. It was so heart-warming to speak to Esmerelda and by doing so it confirmed only what I already knew, that Esmerelda is a voice for the voiceless, with a pure and true heart. Beautiful inside and out, I wish there were more Esmerelda's in the world and I personally am proud and grateful for her contribution to animals in her community. Happy Listening! In this episode of the podcast I had the pleasure of chatting with Garrett Clancy who is the director of the new Docu-Movie "Crazy Cat Lady". The film is now released and streaming on many platforms including Amazon Prime so you may have already seen it. The movie is really important for those who care about cats to understand the many issues faced in everyday life as it follows the struggles of cat overpopulation within Los Angeles however could apply to so many areas where there is a need for TNR and rescue to help keep the cat population down. The problem in Los Angeles has become worse over the years since an injunction was put in place which restricted any form of government funding being spent on spaying, neutering or any form of population control. The problem then became one for the people of L.A who had to find ways to try and solve this themselves. It has been compared to emptying the ocean with a teaspoon as we all know how prolifically cats breed and with this comes endless suffering which is unnecessary and cruel. There is no easy fix and ultimately the years of overbreeding has caused an explosion of cats being born into harsh conditions and this problem is not one which will go away overnight. Garrett follows several different people who are involved with cat rescue, TNR, veterinary care and who deeply care for these neglected cats. Each person involved in the movie is different to the other, come from different backgrounds and have various reasons why they do what they do. They all completely crush the notion of the "Crazy Cat Lady" which is why it is such a perfect title for this gem! You will see in great detail what their work involves being on the front line and the challenges they face for Garrett has been able to showcase to the viewer wonderful stories which weave together perfectly through the movie and you cannot help but warm to each character for different reasons. This movie is important not only for animal rights but to also understand the political movements which many may support but not realise they are detrimental for many reasons. Injunctions like this one are not helpful or beneficial to anyone and cause only suffering and pain, not only for the cats who are the innocent victims, but to the ones who care enough to try and do something and by doing so witness what they do whilst doing so. Please watch this movie and please consider helping cats in your local communities after doing so in any way you can because they all need help and this movie shows this very clearly and although this is L.A focused it is a worldwide issue and this movie flies the flag for this serious and complex problem on a global scale. I know you will enjoy this creative yet raw piece of work. Happy Listening! Fiona X Support the show…

In this episode of the podcast I had the pleasure of chatting to two wonderful and inspiring ladies Linda and Samie from TNR North Platte in Nebraska! They are really wonderful ladies and have achieved so much for the feral cat community in their local area. Starting in 2014 Linda (the founder) worked alone, one cat at a time if you like and she did an amazing job in fixing colonies of cats - one of which she talks about here and how much of an impact her contribution to them has made through TNR! Fast forward and Samie was looking for something to fill a little void in her life and do something meaningful for herself as well as others and so she came on board and handles the social media side of everything for this incredible non-profit as well as being hands on when required, trapping and organising TNR with Linda. TNR is at the forefront of what this wonderful organisation does but there are instances where foster is also key and with a small team working in the background it is often possible and with this comes the opportunity to give so much more to these cats who at that time have no name, are not cared for and yet they have a chance to suddenly have a name, a family of their own and live a best life! Getting these adoptable kittens socialised and off the streets with this chance of a great life TNR North Platte really do everything possible to create these opportunities and chances. The ladies are humble, kind, compassionate and you can tell that they love everything they do with their whole being. Their local community should be so proud of them and thankful... yes ......thankful for what they do and how they do it! If more people stepped up in small communities up like this pair do then these poor innocent cats would live a better life with more opportunities for a good life off the streets, Yet these powerful women are doing it by themselves and their small team so it shows exactly what can be achieved it people just take a chance and try! Please consider following their work, supporting them too if you can here on their Instagram and Facebook page : (1) Trap Neuter Return - TNR - North Platte, Nebraska | Facebook TNR North Platte 🐱 Nebraska (@trapneuterreturnrepeat) • Instagram photos and videos They would be so grateful and appreciate you so much! In this episode of the podcast I had the pleasure of speaking with Mariann from Stray Cat Project and organisation which was founded back in 2014. The mission begun when Mariann was told about 2 kittens who desperately needed help and when another similar incident occurred just a few months later she knew there was a real issue that had to be sorted and so her TNR programme began and she hasn't looked back since. In those early days Mariann and her team were learning on the job but at the same time by doing so making a difference. It shows that even if you know nothing you can still do something by just trying and learning. Even now Mariann explains she still learns from others within the same field and sharing helps everyone to grow and do the best possible job. Mariann explains more about TNR, what it is, what it means and why it is so important for those more feral cats who cannot be rehomed. She also explains why its important to never trap to kill and that TNR is the most humane option for these cats. The importance of keeping feral cats at their original colonies and why they cannot be relocated. Mariann also has a very touching tale about a cat called Blue who was one a stray and who she worked to save over the period of a year. If you like a happy ever after then this story is the one for you. 1 Lets Chat About Cats - Episode 59 Featuring Lorna Harris with Stevie The Blind Cat, Gabi and Cali 51:43
Lorna Harris comes from Manchester and adopted her 2 cats Stevie and Gabi when they were just baby kittens. They had come into the rescue shelter she was working at with their mother but had bad eye infections. Stevie due to the infection lost both his eyes and his sister Gabi lost one. They were bonded and she decided she could not split them and so they both found a forever home with Lorna. After some time Gabi enjoyed her freedom and Lorna felt that Stevie may thrive with the addition of a friend so she started to look for another blind cat to add to the family. Through an organisation who help rehome animals who come from terrible situations she found Cali who was a little blind girl and was in Egypt. She was able to bring her home through the assistance of the organisation and so Cali completed the family. Lorna had previously suffered from depression and anxiety issues and cats have always played a big part in her life with the healing and coping of the difficult times she faced. After being stuck in a job she hated she decided she wanted more from life and so started to work in animal rescue and has done ever since. Through this she has helped others as well as finding her perfect furry family. Lorna explains the trauma Cali suffered and how she still has some problems with her behaviour now and how she copes with it. This episode gives some insight into the patience required to help animals adjust, especially when their background stories are not always known. Stevie copes so well with his blindness and is so beautiful! You will fall in love! Happy Listening! Fiona X Support the show…
In this episode I had the pleasure of spending time chatting with the lovely Chris from Doobert. Chris filled me in on the incredible work he is doing , how Doobert works, how it began and most importantly who Doobert was. Chris is a technical genius and he has created an online platform which is ahead of its time and at the forefront saves the lives of animals! The strapline says it all "Helping You Help Animals" How does it work...?? People simply sign up and enter their availability for the roles they are interested in being involved with. This can be fostering animals, helping relocate them to new homes, volunteering in a rescue or shelter virtually or in person. Doobert is a very special tool and collates all the information which is entered by organisations or people and can coordinate everything through this tool. Rescue work can be difficult at the best of times but when there are restraints on resources and limitations it can make it even harder. This can put people off and even prevent them offering their time or help. To make this easier Doobert takes a lot of the complexity out of that and makes it easier to find those resources and help that is out there. One of the Doobert tools includes the coordination of animal transportation when relocating animals who have been adopted but with Doobert the stress is removed and replaced by the reassurance that the animal can travel safely from A-B to their new home and life that they deserve. Over 5000 animal welfare organisations are already signed up to Doobert but this number could be greater if everyone knew how it worked and how it can benefit and enhance the work they are already doing. Chris is such a joy to the world with the time and commitment he has dedicated and offered to make animals lives better. Please check out his website and see if Doobert can help you or a furry friend! Home - Doobert.com Doobert.com | Facebook Thanks for listening! Fiona X Support the show…

In this episode I had a wonderful chat with Sally Williams. Some of you may know Sally from her previous ventures which include The Brodie Foundation or Marlin Nation! Sally has a long history with cats who have always been a part of her life even from when she was a tiny baby. Her future already seemed mapped out for her but with the introduction of her beloved Brodie into her life it took a different path. Sally has in the past years dedicated her life to cats and animals and with the loss of her beloved Brodie the Brodie Foundation was born. He had cancer and she understood the reality of treatment, costs and starting something which needed to be finished but not stopped or paused due to lack of funding. With the Brodie Foundation she was able to help other families who also had a pet with cancer and that financial assistance bought so many of them that extra precious time which is so special knowing that there is an end date but is still unknown. After losing Brodie to cancer life sent Sally another blow as her beloved Marlin too was diagnosed with cancer. She fought for him and he was given a lot of extra precious time but as you know its never enough and especially when that one is your life companion and soulmate. Suffering from burnout is a sad reality in the lives of animal carers, rescuers and animal parents and so Sally took a step back and now that she has regained some of her precious energy she has started a new mission called MISSION MEOW! This is a non profit which aims to pool together funding from many wonderful organisations and provide funding to organisations who need to do something special and who simply cannot put aside the funding to do so. Each month the monies will be given to organisations who need a helping hand and the monies pooled together to create more for that cause. All will be explained during the chat but Sally has come up with an incredible idea and concept! I wish Sally all the best with this incredible venture and hope that the launch this fall will be a success and that so many deserving people can be helped! After all its about the animals and all are so worthy and deserving! Welcome Emily to the podcast! And what a wonderful chat we had about the incredible journey she has been on since 2017 when she and her fiancé purchased an old house and inherited a colony of cats! Emily had only ever experienced the joy of dogs in her life and did not have any cats of her own and had never owned one either. The day before moving into the property she realised the previous owners were not taking these cats with them and so they were left there to fend for themselves but Emily as an animal lover knew this was not the best for them and so set out to improve their lives. Inheriting 15 cats was not easy but Emily has done so much for them, they all now have names and a wonderful space of their own to live in which is quite luxurious and they now know a life far away from the one they knew before. They have a beautiful space where they can be free and continue to enjoy their own freedom of the outside life but also have some home comforts with plush beds, toys and a cat version of a jungle gym! The house has much history surrounding it and Emily filled me in on her plans for the future of the house and land surrounding it. It is something special when a young couple like Emily and Dylan set out to take on such a great task and help animals by creating a sanctuary for them. Please follow Emily and her special colony where you can find up what they are all up to and how they are enjoying life. Emily Bott (@freedomfarmhouse) • Instagram photos and videos Happy Listening! Welcome Britta from Happy Tailz Rescue to this episode of the show. Happy Tailz will soon celebrate their 4th official anniversary of when they first launched and Britta was happy to share some of the stories of how Happy Tailz works and some of their special cats. Happy Tailz do more than just taking in kittens or cats who need help. They truly step up when required and have a gift for rescuing and caring for some of the most needy cases in the Tampa Bay areas of Florida. They are often pulling cats from near death situations, not only through their medical issues but because they are on the euthanasia lists and often only have hours until their deadline expires and face death if no one comes to save them. With this unknown health history often these special cats can come with a huge commitment financially and it is something Happy Tailz have to always be aware of and ensure they have enough funds to meet the medical bills no matter the cost. Britta shared the story of sweet little Skye who some of the Happy Tailz followers will know and also the most recent entries Leonidas (who is one of my favourites) and Posideon and his almost twin sister Jubilee. You can find out more about them and their ongoing care as well as how they are doing. Britta has big dreams and goals for the future of Happy Tailz but as always it relies on funding to make these a reality. This was a truly beautiful episode that I recorded when I had the opportunity to chat to Tamara Schenk the author of the most wonderful book Soul Cats. Tamara lives in Germany with her husband and she has an incredible story to tell, so much that she wrote a book about her life experience. The incredible Soul Cats was born through a deep a meaningful bond with her soul cat Max but it is also so much more than a book. Having adopted Max and Flix from a shelter it was through this act of kindness that Tamara's life changed in many ways and adopting them was only the start of her journey. I do not want to give too much away about the book but the story is of their relationship and the bond they shared which started as one thing but with the help of animal communication it became something more. Tamara learned more about the previous life of Max and Flix which helped her understand them to a much deeper level but most importantly when facing numerous health issues it made the difference to both Tamara, Max and Flix when transitioning from this life to the next. Tamara is now an animal communicator and offers this to many others who seek answers, reassurance and guidance from their feline friends. Through this deep communication pet owners can learn so much. They can communicate with their pets in this life and the next and surely there cannot be anything more reassuring than that. The book is one that when you start reading you cannot put it down for a second and it takes you through a wonderful and at times magical journey alongside Tamara. There are ups and downs, laughter and tears but at the centre a deep and never ending love which you can feel through every word. It is not just a spiritual book, its a book for anyone who loves a story of friendship, trust, building a family, patience, kindness and love, the thing I took most from this book was the never ending love. Introducing the incredible Nancy from Feral Care Sanctuary in this episode. Nancy started her work many years ago and has never looked back since. Understanding the great need to help feral cats who are misunderstood and who were the most likely to be euthanised in shelters with the number as high as 25 a week in the US Nancy knew that help could only be a positive change and so the Sanctuary was born. The Sanctuary is a real oasis for these cats who need to feel safe and loved but on their own terms, the environment is set out to replicate the perfect world for a feral cat. With many places to stay hidden when they wish, high cat trees or beds and spaces where they can bask in the sun or watch the pesky crows who sit outside and tease them the space is created from the cats perspective to make it natural and pleasant. Not every cat wants a home or to sit on a lap and all they want or need is to be safe, this is exactly how they can live here. They are respected for being who they are and that is truly special. Caring for 100 cats at any time is not easy and especially when they are often not able to be handled for medical care and the worst thing anyone can do is add extra stress to these cats when such changes can be hard to adapt to anyway. However, this is a second chance for them to spend many happy days in a place which is a world away from the only one many of them have ever known. Nancy shared insight into the feral cat, their behaviours, what it is like caring for them, the highs and lows and most importantly why relocating a feral should only ever be as a last resort. You will find this episode very informative and moving too for those who follow my page will know a special cat called Marley was relocated here after being rescued by Karen PDX Trapper and Nancy updated me on him. In this episode of the podcast I spoke to Mia and Julie who were representing Itty Bitty Kitty Tails in the Middle East. They explained to me more about the lack of legislation in the Middle East and how it is so hard to try and stop the ongoing abuse and neglect that is happening there each and every day. With no animal protection laws or proper sentencing for crimes committed against animals it is very difficult to find ways to stop the suffering or at least deter it. Many animals are suffering badly because of this and Itty Bitty Kitty Tails are working to reduce suffering and give these animals a chance to recover and start a new life away from the harsh one they face now. Taking cats from the streets the Itty Bitty Kitty Tails are finding homes for them and relocating them to other countries to give them the best chance in life. Learn more about them here Our Story | Itty Bitty Kitty Tails and how you can support their mission to make a difference by reading their story, making a donation or offering to foster or adopt and much more! 1 Lets Chat About Cats - Episode 50 Featuring Ashley & Logan Ryan from Ryan Animal Rescue Foundation AKA RARF 48:23
On this episode of the podcast I had a chance to virtually meet with Ashley and Logan Ryan who are the founders of RARF - Ryan Animal Rescue Foundation. Many of you will know that Lets Chat About Cats Podcast and Sterling "Trapking" Davis have teamed together and dedicated the official 2023 calendar to RARF and they will be the beneficiary of the proceeds raised from sales of this one off fundraiser. The monies will assist RARF and their ongoing collaboration with Sterling. This includes funding for grants within the community assisting people with gaining non-profit status which in turn helps them continue important work in the community caring for animals as well as TNR. Ashley and Logan speak a little bit more about themselves in depth, sharing their background and the wonderful story of how they ended up creating their own non profit. It was not planned but was something they felt they could use as a wonderful tool to help so many after a chance photo almost broke the internet overnight. RARF does so much that it is almost hard to summarise but Ashley and Logan strongly emphasise that their organisation is always organic and is open to adaptation. They refuse to remain stagnant in a world that is ever changing with challenges and trials to overcome, especially within the rescue field. Having had to adapt how they did things during covid they know first hand that to continue to be successful means being open minded and learning from those who have something to share with you. Some of the work RARF do is helping communities and the people behind the animals as well as the animals. Providing financial aid to assist those who need it, educational programmes which enhance animals lives and behavioural training which supports the reduction in owner surrender and keeps pets out of shelters. Logan also is proud of his monthly campaign which takes long serving shelter residents who have been passed by time and time again and raises their profile with the hope of them being adopted finally into a loving home which they are craving and which they deserve. Ashley and Logan were introduced to the cat world through their daughter who adores kittens and is so involved with the fostering of the many kittens who come through their door. Avery is young but already understands the importance of litter tray maintenance and that its not just about cuddly and playful kittens. She does the hard work too. The Ryan's are a humble and kind family with animals at the forefront of their daily life and its kudos to them that they have taken Logan's profile as an NFL player and used it for something truly positive and really make a difference in the world. As Logan explains it is important to break down barriers and show that even in the most macho sport you can still love animals. Please enjoy this episode and if you haven't yet purchased your calendar to support RARF please consider doing so. It is a wonderful production with some of the most beautiful and special cats who had a sad or bad start in life and each represent a special rescue. As Sterling would say we are all #SAMETEAM in this together and after all sharing is caring! If you are looking for some inspiration then this podcast is for you for I was honoured to be able to chat to the incredible duo who make up Catastical Meows! Mom Erin and Lil Chris are experts in fostering and have gained experience and knowledge over the past 3 years. Everything seems normal with this right.... not really when you consider that Lil Chris is only 13 years old! Already at his young age he is leading the way for becoming one of the greats of the cat world and an advocate for foster and kitten care! Lil Chris has loved cats all through his childhood but when his mom Erin realised he had a deeper passion and wanted to learn more she totally supported it. Allowing Chris to attend numerous seminars in preparation for what was ahead really paved the way. A foster seminar ignited his drive and he was ready. The pair teamed with local rescues and the rest they say is history. Lil Chris is always looking to expand and grow his knowledge with everything cat related and shared stories about his own personal journey which include his cat Mouse who is an FIP survivor. Mouse inspired Chris to write a book and who knows what other books are planned for the future! It is testament to Erin that Chris conducts himself in such a humble, respectful, kind and caring way and her support and encouragement has opened so many doors already for Chris in his young life. She really is a mom in a million!! It will be interesting to watch this young man over the next 5+ years and see how his cat journey develops. This episode is all about fostering and how it can save lives and change lives! Introducing the wonderful Katie from Foster The Cat People based in Tucson, Arizona. Katie was introduced to the world of fostering through Courtney from Poets Square Cats when she found her profile on social media after moving to the local area and asked if there was anything she could do to help. Katie never meant to foster a cat and simply thought it was going to be a 2-3 day short stay to help out, but things grew quickly from that "short stay" and so a new purpose for Katie begun. Katie soon discovered that she was a natural at fostering and had a way of working with even the most feral of cats so that they mellowed just enough to find their own forever homes and by doing so were given a new chance of life in a wonderful family. Katie explained what it is like bringing home a new foster, how it can be daunting and what you can perhaps expect, how a room should be set up, some tips on routines and getting those shy or skittish ones settled and helping them gain trust. Katie also shared some stories of her fosters and some of you may even know them from Instagram, Mr Business, Alien, Feral Fawcett and of course her new foster Francois who is settling in just fine and of course her most recent foster fail Severus Snape AKA Butthead! Fostering also comes with its share of sadness when you see the ones you have grown to love leave for their new lives but also when something goes wrong with health and decisions have to be made. Katie was kind enough to share the raw reality of this journey with the highs as well as the lows. If you want to know what life is like for a foster mom then this is the episode for you! Katie is a warm and compassionate young woman with a heart of gold and is so passionate about what she does but also knows that self care is also important. It was such an honour to chat to Adrienne and Jae who make up the incredible duo of Two Crazy Cat Ladies. These women are flying the flag high for the proper healthcare that your cats need and deserve. Their passion is really evident through their valuable social media work but when speaking to them then you can really see how much they love what they are doing. With smiles as wide as the ocean and beaming from ear to ear it is impossible not to feel a sense of their infectious happiness and radiance. Adrienne and Jae are warm, friendly and fun and you can feel immediately they really care about their mission. With their social media and own brand Feline Essential they are helping cat owners by educating them on ways they can prolong their cats life in the best possible way with a strong focus on acting sooner rather than later with simple supplements which can be added into daily diets and can ensure the best healthcare for your cat. For them proactiveness is key to giving your cat a rich and healthy life. Their brand is something which was lacking in the feline world and with Jae already having a family history in animal care products the foundation was already in place for her to really make this a dream come true and with Adrienne beside her each step of the way a fabulous team was born. Sharing a wealth of knowledge with their loyal followers the ladies are advocates for always learning, gaining more information and most importantly passing it on. Between them I am sure there isn't anything they do not already know but if so then you can be sure they are "on it" and already researching, reading, listening or watching so that they are armed with everything they need to pass their findings on. I think they may be the most positive people I have had the opportunity to chat to and it was really wonderful to listen to everything they wanted to share. You can join the lovely ladies live on their Instagram account Two Crazy Cat Ladies (@thetwocrazycatladies) • Instagram photos and videos don't forget to bring some wine for viewing as they are wine lovers and will appreciate the gesture I am sure. This episode of the podcast was really refreshing for me and filled with belly laughs! What else can you expect when you are blessed with the opportunity to chat to 2 stand up comedians at the same time! Welcome Brian Vermeire "The BriGuy" and Kristina Hughes "Fancy Comedy" to the show to talk about their love of cats from a young age... or for Kristina it was a love from a young age ... Brian on the other hand had to be convinced and introduced slowly to the world of cats but once he was through that door the rest they say is history and there was no going back!!! Over the years this wonderful couple have rescued over 10 cats and currently still have a few indoors that they care for! This number of cats came with a problem of smelly cat trees which were hard to clean and which take up a lot of space in an apartment or home being so big or bulky. The only thing to do was to come up with some functional product which could not only work well for the cats but be fun and unique to the owners and their home. Introducing "Frame Your Feline" which is a product unlike any other, your cat quite simply becomes a work of art. With interchangeable frames and backgrounds this is something which is fun and can suit any taste. Research confirmed that people were curious to try this and when they did they really enjoyed it. Plus there was and is nothing else out there the same! Brian and Kristina have had fun creating this product with the help from Brian's dad who is a master in his woodworking skills! Shout out to Brian's dad!!!! You can find out more about this product Frame Your Feline see which one may take your fancy!! and how it can change your life as well as your cats. You can find them on Instagram FrameYourFeline (@frameyourfeline) • Instagram photos and videos where you can see the product in real life and how special it is. The one thing which came through was the passion when this couple speak about their product, its fun like they are and really when the world is as it is now we need smiles and light-heartedness, thanks for brightening my weekend! Shout out to Brian and Kristina's son Jackson who was a real treasure and it was a pleasure to "meet" you! Thanks for listening! Fiona X Support the show…

In this episode I enjoyed spending time with not one but 2 lovely ladies! Emily the founder of Whiskers N Wishes Rescue in Arizona and her sidekick Jadon! These ladies are really inspiring as individual people and together make a real life dream team! Working together they specialise in rescue and rehoming of senior cats... you know the ones who are less adoptable and find it harder to find a home and not to mention they are the ones most likely to be euthanised in shelters. Emily and Jadon work so hard and have accomplished so much in such a short time. Starting with a dream from Emily that she could take on this new venture and make it happen she really is a warrior! Beside this she also brings up twins as a single mom and Jadon is only 17 years old! Recently Jadon worked as part of a TNR mission and the number of cats she was able to trap was outstanding! Giving senior cats a second or last chance in life is very rewarding but along with it comes heartache too sometimes, these ladies take this side of their work seriously too and are often the guiding light as many of these seniors cross the rainbow and they feel blessed to have been that person for that one cat who needed someone in their last moments. Its not an easy job but Emily and Jadon step up and just get it done! Compassionate and kind as well as full of love you need to check out their work and give them some praise or thanks! This may have been one of the most emotional podcasts I have ever recorded and when you know the story you will understand why! Meet Diane, a wonderful woman who lives with her gorgeous cat Josephine... sounds normal doesn't it? But Diane has had her own issues as she suffers from MS and had to give up her whole career because of it. She found solace in her one true soulmate Pooh who is sadly no longer with her. After passing the rainbow bridge Pooh left Diane lost and most of all alone. Pooh was her everything, so much so that it took her almost 5 years to consider adopting another cat. Enter Josephine to the scene... a beautiful cat with white fur, a little black moustache and thumbs.... yes she has thumbs... what more could anyone ask for in mending a broken heart but Josephine is no normal cat by any standard. From the very start she violently attacked Diane over and over... several times per day! Causing serious pain, fear and infection. Diane could not figure out what was wrong but with the choice of never giving up and surrendering Josephine for the fear of her being euthanised it was finally discovered that Josephine suffers from FHS which is Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome and anyone who touches her back area will surely suffer from the awful reaction it causes. Now that Josephine has a diagnosis life is much easier for Diane but still outbursts of this violence occur but Diane knows what to look for and how to cope. Diane shares wonderful insight into this condition which there are currently no tests for and explains how she weaved through many sleepless nights of worry, anxiety and also the impact it had on Josephine who herself suffers from anxiety. It is pretty hard to put this whole podcast into summary so I suggest you listen to this complex but at time beautiful and raw heart wrenching story of life, love, loss and the joy of being grateful for what you have each day. In this episode I had a wonderful time chatting with Shannon Jackson who is mom to the one and only Smush! It was such a fun interview and Shannon was so warm and friendly that the time passed so quickly and we both had fun. I also got to "meet" Smush on camera so that was also a highlight! Shannon told me about her early days and how she became a photographer. Some of her work can be found on shannon jax productions, photography by Shannon Jackson Shannon shared much about little Smush including her bad start in life when she was found very sick and needed round the clock care to when she was lucky enough to adopt her and bring her home. Smush has such a great personality and is quite feisty too. Shannon explains how there are sometimes 2 versions of Smush, the internet one where everyone things she is so sweet and adorable (which by the way she is) but also her attitude and wild spirit which she expresses freely with Shannon. Smush is Shannon's soul cat and you can see it when she talks about her and her face is positively beaming like the proud mom she is! Shannon shared news of her upcoming projects where she will use her amazing photography skills to help shelters find homes for the animals and raise awareness. She also will soon go to Vietnam where she will help in an ongoing programme which helps raise awareness of the cat and dog meat trade industry in the Far East. Working with Animal Charity - Animal Welfare Organisation - FOUR PAWS UK (four-paws.org.uk) #FIGHTFORCATS is a work in progress to try and end this awful trade indefinitely. With around 30 million animals killed every year in Asia with many stolen or trafficked - many of whom are pets! this has to stop so Shannon is using Smush as a platform to reach more people and try and make a difference. Shannon also started her own podcast recently with Sterling Trapking Davis called Same Team and they are enjoying "smushing the beef" about serious issues within the rescue field! Please find them on Spotify and give them a listen too : https://open.spotify.com/show/6lf0thqBGIBo7tam3O3KLS?si=6d5693e766c24fd0 Smush also has her own book called Smush for President and Shannon told me all about how the concept came up and a little of the story, which included Smush's love of bread!! You can find the book on Amazon! This is just a heart-warming episode which felt like 2 friends catching up on old times. Please follow Smush if you don't already and see what a courageous girl she is online here smush official and Facebook Smush | Facebook and Instagram Smush 🐈🍞 (@smushofficial) • Instagram photos and videos where she is a Warrior Queen! In this episode of the podcast I was overjoyed to chat to the wonderful Daisy from LA and her fur baby Ladie Marmie. Marmie has a story which is very sad, she was rescued from the streets of LA and was ready to be euthanised but thankfully Daisy was helping out at the shelter and their paths crossed. The rest they say is history. Marmie was not like any other cat, she was filthy and covered in dirt and the rescue could not even tell what colour she was. Added to this she also suffered from EDS (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome) which wasn't even diagnosed at the time and she had not been neutered either. She was found wearing a red collar so she surely must have belonged to someone but how long she had been living rough on the streets is unknown to everyone. Had she had litters of kittens out then by herself? So many unanswered questions. Once adopted Marmie started a wonderful new life with her mom Daisy and she shows everyday just how grateful she is. During the interview Marmie was glued to Daisy and just wanted love every second. She is so sweet and loving its hard to even comprehend how she managed to survive on the streets by herself. Marmie has many other health issues which make life sometimes difficult for her as well as the EDS she had Stomatitis, Asthma, Diaphragmatic Hernia but she takes it all in her stride and lights up with world with her sweet face! Today I hosted my youngest ever guest on the show! The beautiful Shaine from Minnesota joined me to tell me all about her creations which enhance the lives of so many animals. Shaine is only 16 years old but already is a truly inspiring young lady. During the pandemic she started to help paralysed, disabled or special needs animals by creating special wheelchairs and carts to give them the mobility they were otherwise missing and allow them to live with an enhanced quality of life. Shaine has always loved animals and having learned about so many animals being euthanised in shelters because they were seen as not being able to have a full life she knew she wanted to make a positive change and do something. Her carts were born and she started by working on them to make a difference. Since then Shaine has not only made wheelchairs and carts for cats and dogs but she has also helped a little hedgehog. She customises the carts for her clients in various colours and styles and takes great pride in her work. The incredible thing is Shaine does all of this in her spare time alongside still studying for school, dancing and so keeps her very busy but she works with such grace, passion and a pure heart. Shaine recently was featured as a guest on the Kelly Clarkson show and she was very excited about that! In the world there are some special people and Shaine is one of them, at such a young age she understood that people need to stand up to make a difference and found a way in which she could. Truly remarkable. You can follow Shaine on her Instagram @wheelies_dogandcat_wheelchairs to see more of her creations and what she's working on. Support the show…

A podcast with royalty... yes the one and only Sterling Trapking Davis is the guest today and you are in for a real treat!!! Sterling has come a long way from his childhood days when he was exposed to an abusive household and sought comfort in the other voiceless beings he connected with... his cats. He recognised that they were very much like him and since he had no one to speak up for and help him he knew that he could be the one to make a difference in their lives. Sterling is prolific in trapping and it could be said that no other rivals what he does. The work that he does in his community and beyond is outstanding but he wants to do more and puts himself forward to do more. He is always open to new ideas and initiatives and filled me in on one of those which is coming up very soon! In partnership with CARE Our Goal is to set a record, help spay and neuter as many community cats. (careawo.org) he is setting out to break a record and TNR as many cats as possible in 24 hours. Sterling is based in Atlanta, Georgia but with the addition of his super RV he is able to travel and reach many more areas and really make a difference. This difference he makes is not only through trapping but in educating people on what he does, why he does it and how it can really make a difference. Sterling is passionate about his work and you can see he lives it in his every breath. Sterling is proud to be a male in what is a very female dominated environment and does not appreciate the crazy cat lady phenomenon, he feels these ladies should be appreciated and respected for the work they do and this is where his compassionate side is even more evident and his strength to stand up for what he believes in. He is also proud to be a black male again in an environment where trapping and animal care is often overlooked simply because of the social boundaries placed upon underprivileged households. The social divide is one that Sterling is working on to break down those barriers and make animal care accessible to all. Individuality is something you get with Sterling and his painted nails, bald head, beard and branded clothing make him instantly recognisable, memorable and iconic on so many levels! He has every reason to be proud of who he is, what he has achieved and flies the flag for those seeking to fulfil their dreams and is the reason why people should believe in their goals and just take a leap of faith. Sterling shared much in this chat including his early days in the military, the reasons why he became a vegetarian, his music career and early days in his first animal rescue role which led to him setting up his own non profit. We spoke about his upcoming trips, the background of his fantastic app called Tabby Dates which was featured on Shark Tank and how the app helps cat lovers find their purrfect soulmate and most importantly a mate who loves cats as much as they do! We spoke about compassion fatigue and how to stay safe when trapping, especially as females who may work in some not so safe or welcoming environments. Sterling is a one of a kind type of guy and really lights up a room, he is a magnet to whoever is lucky enough to be blessed to spend any time whatsoever with him and makes a forever lasting impression. The cats however are the lucky ones because everything he does is for them, who wouldn't want someone like Sterling in your corner, fighting for you, representing you?? As he says in his own motto "you don't lose cool points for compassion" and Sterling shows that compassion can be cool, it can be fun, it can be everything you want it to be whilst still sticking to your roots, maintaining self respect and creating positive change! My guests today really brightened up my Sunday afternoon with their lovely chat and stories that they shared with me. Paul and David were delighted to talk to me about The FIV 3! Which in reality is really 4 but little Oreo the founding member has passed away and so the FIV 3 is only 3 as they describe as the magic number. Paul adopted Oreo when he was looking for someone to share his home and keep him company. Knowing he did not want his cat to be outside and rather an indoor cat he started to search for the best cat who would appreciate an indoor life. Not knowing anything about FIV beforehand Paul only knew that he fell head over heels in love with little Oreo and made it his mission to adopt him. After seeing Oreo online he know that he was his cat. Oreo was happy but Paul felt he needed some company while he was at work and so Arya came along and then later Cole. Their names are explained in the podcast and their stories too. As you know Oreo passed away and Paul was heartbroken. The episode is related to FIV but Oreo did not pass from FIV but complications relating to an earlier injury before he was adopted. It was a real tragedy but in so many ways Oreo has left behind a wonderful legacy full of love and hope for others who were just like him. To complete the duo left behind after Oreo's passing little Bugs came along to once more complete the FIV 3! Paul and David share their journey and life with the cats as well as the problems they have faced together, the heartbreak and the fun and happy times too. I truly felt warm listening to them talking to openly and if I was a cat I surely would feel nothing but love in this household! FIV is not a death sentence and Paul explains how these cats can live happy and enriched lives full of fun and that there is no reason to be afraid of what we often do not know, miseducation and untrue facts found on the internet do not paint a true and accurate picture which is why Paul set up his own page sharing his cats but also a Facebook Group so that other FIV cat owners can share stories and knowledge as well as positive experiences. It really is helpful to have these avenues to come and feel comfortable in asking for help or advice and people are always happy to help. In this episode I chat to Deny from Support FIV. Deny works online networking to try and match potential adopters with FIV cats who may otherwise be left in shelters waiting for a home. This work is done across America, Canada and Dubai. Having experience of an FIV cat herself with her own cat Basel she realised that with her knowing so little about FIV she had to learn and so started to research about the virus and in turn started educating others along the way. With so many myths about FIV and people being told false truths Deny felt it was important to spread the words that FIV cats can live healthy lives, can live safely with other cats and can live just the same as other cats in their household. FIV is not a death sentence for cats and need not be either. If people knew more about this virus and in a positive light then they may be more willing to adopt FIV cats and give them a chance at life. Please check out Deny's Instagram page @supportfiv and please consider adopting an FIV cat from a shelter where you may be their last chance. Thanks for listening Fiona X Support the show…

In this episode of the podcast I had a heartwarming chat with lovely Andrea from Virginia USA. She wanted to share with me and all of you listeners the story of her little boy Tiny who has suffered from FIP and just recently finished his treatment. Andrea and I spoke a few months ago and waited until Tiny had successfully completed his 84 days of treatment so that we could discuss more about the process in obtaining the medication required to treat FIP and also to ensure Tiny came through it successfully. Tiny and his brother Mander were rescued from the side of the road by Andrea as they had been dumped inside a box. She brought them home with the intention of surrendering them to a local shelter when they had some available space but Mander and Tiny became foster fails and still live with Andrew and her husband. After sometime Tiny was showing signs that something was not quite right and was diagnosed with the dreaded FIP. However it did not mean there was not something that Andrea could do. Despite knowing nothing about FIP she spent time researching and reaching out to others who did and took the decision to try and save Tiny. Andrea explains all about the process of treatment, how and where you can find treatment and things to look out for when doing so. There are always risks but there are good people out there who want to help and Andrea brings some confidence that there are people who will do the right thing and help and often it is just a matter of knowing where to go and who to reach out to. You can follow Tiny and his story on Instagram @tiny_fip_fighter and for those seeking urgent help then on Facebook you should look to join FIP Warriors where you will be linked to admin and they will help you. Stephanie Grantham is the Executive Director and Co Founder of the amazing Sparkle Cat Rescue located in Burlington North Carolina. Sparkle is a 501C registered non profit organisation and have helped over 1400 cats in their local community since 2014. Stephanie made a massive change from the corporate world to dedicate her life to what she does now for Sparkle, ensuring its success. Sparkle is a bit of everything however they predominately rescue and foster cats into new homes to give them a great chance in life where they may otherwise face euthanasia if shelters are bursting and have no spaces however they are also involved with TNR and helping independent cat trappers and colonies to keep the feral cat population down. During the pandemic Sparkle were hit hard with the fundraising resources they normally use depleted due to isolation rules and so had to find other ways to keep going, creativity became key and despite the difficulties they faced they were able to help a phenomenal number of cats that year. Thankfully the fosterers increased and Sparkle were able to help so many more cats in need. Specifically cats in shelters who were during that period given a time limit, they took them and found fosters and homes to save their lives. Stephanie beams from ear to ear when talking about the work she does and despite the long hours and often heartbreak she faces, she keeps going and knows every second of her time is precious but vital into continuing the success of what she has created. Stephanie has worked with some really feral cats and shares stories of some of them, as well as one particular cat who suffered awful abuse and who she knows will stay with her forever. Patience and love is something Stephanie has in abundance and she can truly relate to those special cats who just need more time. She also shared with me the story of her soulmate Mardi who really was part of the reason why she now dedicates her life to saving so many, she lost Mardi soon after his rescue and knew if someone had helped him sooner he could have been saved. Stephanie wanted to spare any others the same fate as her beloved boy did. 1 Lets Chat About Cats - Episode 34 Featuring Róisín Bradley Goy and GG from CH Kitty Tales Ireland 47:13
In this episode of the podcast I spent a lovely time chatting to beautiful Róisín Bradley all the way in Dublin! My very first Irish guest on the show. We met through a mutual group on Facebook and she was delighted to tell me more about her gorgeous girlies Goy and GG who both have CH or you may know it as Cerebellar Hypoplasia. On top of this Goy is deaf but it doesn't stop her living her best life!! The sisters look like twins and when Róisín saw them she knew they had to be hers. After fostering for sometime her first cat Trio had become used to being a foster daddy to all of the kittens and Róisín felt that it was upsetting for him each time the kittens left and he was lonely. Noticing that regular kittens were adopted pretty quickly she knew that there must be some kittens or cats with special needs who do not find homes so easily and so she set out on a search to give one of those deserving kitties a special forever home. She was lucky not only once but twice and the girls have brightened up her life so much! You can learn tips on what you should or should not do with a deaf cat to hearing how Goy learnt sign language and how Róisín is often pushed aside for dear Aunt Mary! Róisín set up a Facebook page to share her girls antics and have a fan base from all around the world and they adore "Flying Friday" - follow her page here for more information on that special day CH Kitty Tales Ireland | Facebook Hope you enjoy listening! In today's episode I had the absolute honour of chatting with Michele Hoffman the founder and president of Milo's Sanctuary in Southern California. Those who know Milo's will know how important their sanctuary and mission is for special needs cats in the world because they open up their hearts and home to those less fortunate ones who then become the most loved and fortunate cats in the world. Saving so many cats over so may years Michele has had an incredible journey where she has built an incredible place which is the symbol of love, kindness and everything that is gentle and true in the world. Having belief in what she wanted to do with her life's journey Michele has built a special place which means so much to so many, not only the animals who live there. Thanks to Milo's the unforgettable Sir Thomas Trueheart or Tommy as he is affectionately known was born as you could say his story only begun when he entered the sanctuary to start his new life, a life which was miles away from the one he knew before. Coming from living a solitary life in the middle of the desert where someone cruelly covered him in some kind of acid which burned his skin and face he finally came to know what love and safety was and in return he simply lit up the world with his big forgiving and kind heart. Tommy enchanted all of us and became an icon and symbol for special needs cats, to show there can be goodness in forgiveness and most of all in love. Everything that Tommy stands for today is what Milo's also stands for and never has there been a place which is so full of love and hope for the underdog. You can hear all about Michele and her life before Milo's , her bravery to go after her dream, to push through her own boundaries to make sure everything was in place so that when she undertook this mammoth life task she could to it to the best of her ability for those who would come under her wings. Michele shares stories of some of the great and known characters from Milo's such as Jack and his funny jokes, Fennel being a beautiful butterfly girl, sweet boys Herman and Bear and Daisy with her love story with Tommy. Remember please to have some tissues ready for it is quite an emotional ride. Michele is a warm and inviting individual and I have no doubt the animals feel it too, an inspiring lady with so much to give to those who need it. Thank you Michele for all that you do. There are some stories which leave you heartbroken when you think of the trauma and sadness of what an animal has endured. The story of Beezus is no different but Beezus has Lori on her side as an encouraging and inspiring soulmate to be her guide and be her partner in life. The bond between Lori and Beezus is evident in every photo or video Lori shares on her social media and you can see how deeply their love flows for one another. Lori found Beezus at a time in her life when she was least expecting to and yet has enriched it so much and has given her so much more than she could ever have dreamed. Beezus is a classic cruelty case and spent the first 5 years of her life kept inside a cage in a dark basement as part of a hoarding house. She was not socialised and due to the bad conditions she was living in her eyes were a constant pain for her and she was suffering. One day an angel came and found help for Beezus and the 40 animals also suffering in the same way. Beezus began her new life. Her eyes were so badly infected that they had to be removed but you would never know. Beezus lives an incredible free life now with Lori who is always by her side. She can explore with Lori and feel the grass on her toes and the sun on her fur as she sunbathes inside her favourite plant pots. You would never know Beezus was not socialised because she's so affectionate with Lori and trusts her completely. Lori explains her decisions in adopting her and then how she dealt with finding out Beezus has epilepsy and her medication routines, This story is not one which leaves you sad but instead inspired to know that even in a dark day there is always love if you care to find it, there is hope through every dark time and braveness even in the lost souls of the world. Share in the bond between these 2 special souls and feel the love in Lori's every word! In this episode I had the pleasure of talking to not only one wonderful lady but 2!! I chatted with Lauren and Jasmine who are the founders of Cat-CHING based in Sheffield. Lauren had been working in rescue before Cat-CHING was established in 2019 and it was through working at another rescue Lauren and Jasmine met one another. From a bad and very sad experience their beliefs in what was the right thing to do for animals who were being rescued led them to founding their own organisation giving them more freedom and control to do what they believe was and is the right thing. Cat-CHING was then born and became a registered charity in the UK. Despite not having a base, doing all their work from home and with the help of amazing fosterers and volunteers these ladies are a dream team and their success figures have soared year on year!!! Surviving through the pandemic the ladies have come out stronger and most of all wiser, adapting to new ways of working has saved them time and enabled them to work more productively in everything they do. Cat-CHING works hard to carry out TNR where cats are too feral to be rehomed but in many cases where the cats are instead strays and not so feral then every resource is made available to find the perfect home for these friendly felines who have become lost or perhaps been abandoned and left to fend for themselves. The ladies have been busy with a never ending kitten season in 2021 and even had to deal with an emergency birth during the festive season and work tirelessly 24/7 on top of having their own full time jobs. If you are looking for inspiration and examples of dedication then Jasmine and Lauren are the ones to talk to! They share in this episode their stories of memorable rescues, furry ones lost and forever loved and the reason they keep on going even when it is often tough. Please check out their social media, consider following them to see their work or perhaps even making a donation. Every little helps and can go a long way. Most of all Lauren and Jasmine ask everyone to spread the word that cats need to be spayed or neutered - it really is that simple!! Cat-CHING is their website! Please take a look and on Facebook they can be found here Cat-CHING Sheffield | Facebook and on Instagram they are @catching_sheffield, their just giving page is Cat-CHING Sheffield - JustGiving and please check out their Amazon Wishlist where you can see which supplies are needed to help support their new intakes of kittens, seniors and allow them to keep on fostering at Amazon.co.uk . In this episode of the podcast I chatted to Karen from Oregon. Karen is an independent cat rescuer who works hard in the field of TNR in her local community. It was not always like this as she once belonged to a rescue and volunteered there. From there she set up a non profit organisation with a few friends but it turns out that not everyone who is involved in rescue is in it for the right reasons. She soon discovered that she was the victim of bullying and when she tried to speak out for the cats she was caring for in a hoarding situation, no one stood with her and in the end she had to hold her head high and walk away. Without the limitations of working with an organisation where there are many conflicting rules, jealousy, envy and bitterness she was able to step out of her comfort zone and spread her wings. She has trapped many cats and sterilised them. She has also been able to network with others to secure fosters or adoptions. This episode demonstrates how it is possible for just one person to make a difference but also sets out to say that bullying is not ok, it is not acceptable and if people in rescue are working for the animals they strive to serve then this needs to be stopped to ensure they are being cared for correctly and for the right reasons. Karen opened up her heart about what was a sensitive and hurtful subject matter but in a way that made her seem so inspiring to me and with an inner fight for what is right. She is what is good in this world and any animals who cross her path are surely lucky. She has a good heart and uses it in the best way possible. She also tells us about her struggles in TNR and how she works, how and where she houses many of the cats she saves and about a recent case of panleukopenia in her fosters. It was very distressing but her story could save another. Thank you Karen for sharing your story! Thanks for listening Fiona X Support the show…

In this episode of the podcast I had the absolute pleasure of chatting to the lovely Georgie who is mum to Toby, Quinton and Leo. Those who follow them on Instagram will know them as Tummy & Gummy and will surely know their story so far....and for those who do not then I will try not to spoil the episode but it is an emotional one and Georgie shares some truly intimate details of the journey she has ben on so far with her beloved fur babies. From how her journey started through the adoption of sweet Herbie to the adoption of Quinton, Toby and then the adoption of Leo. The conversation flows through the journey of Georgie meeting Quinton and Toby for the first time, bringing them home and includes the health issues of Quinton battling cancer when it was discovered he had a growth in his mouth and spread rapidly. Quinton did not live very long after his diagnosis and in all honesty the story is still very raw and recent. The bond between Quinton and Toby was incredible, so loving and also heart-breaking when there is of course loss and one living without the other. Georgie also shares some information about the condition Toby has which is Ehlers Danlos Syndrome which you may know instead as EDS. EDS is a disease characterized by deficient levels of collagen, the protein molecule necessary for providing strength and elasticity to the skin and ligaments, along with much of the rest of the body, in simple terms the skin is fragile, can be heavy, droopy and tear. because of the lack of collagen which makes our skin spring back. Add this to cats who have claws and you can understand why they can easily hurt themselves. It is a condition which cannot be cured but can be managed and Georgie gives tips and information on how to limit injury or even spot or treat injury. She lets us in on the secret of how she knows Toby has injured himself without seeing it... he is really funny and cute! :) Find out where Toby and Leo get their sweet outfits which keep them safe and comfortable and how they also both love being naked! And more about their little habits and individual characters and personalities. Both Toby and Leo are sweet little boys and you can hear just how deep the bond between them goes as well as between Georgie and her beloved boys. After the recording Georgie let me in on a little secret that another EDS baby was going to be joining her family and whilst typing up this intro Georgie has already posted the news and shared the photo of her newest member of the family. His name is Chino and he will be coming from Germany. He may even be there by the time this episode airs! Please share and spread the word that EDS cats like Toby, Leo and Chino are special and can live normal healthy lives! Education and knowledge is power and if just one cat can be saved or given a good chance at life then its all worthwhile. Sometimes in life you may hope for a moment when you can speak to someone truly special and I feel so honoured and lucky to have spent over 2 and a half hours with my next guest. They say some people are born golden because they have beautiful hearts & even more beautiful souls, this is the only way to describe Chris Poole. He is one of the gems of the cat world. He is a gem not only for the incredible work he carries out in TNR but for his simplicity, his humbleness & genuine heart. There is no ego to be found, he's always thinking he can do more, or doesn't do enough & thinking of ways to give more back to the loyal fanbase & supporters he clearly holds so dear to his heart. He is gentle, kind & truly wears his heart on his sleeve. You can see happiness & joy oozing from every pore when he speaks about his rescue work but not least when he speaks about his beloved Cole, Marmalade, Jugg and Zig Zag. Chris's face lights up & you can tell he is living the dream of being able to do what he loves everyday and make a difference to so many cats. The conversation covers many personal topics close to Chris's heart & at times is very emotional, so much that Chris had to pause to gather himself, he still carries overwhelming feelings from the court case where he fought to be able to continue his Cole and Marmalade work & share their lives with us, the lucky people of the world. Thinking of the support he & his lovely wife Jess received all he can think is that he needs to do more, give more, to thank everyone somehow, rather than accept it for what it is... that people adore him, respect his work & love his beloved sons Cole and Marmalade. Chris opens up about his early days in the UK, how he came to live in Florida, he shares more about baby Cole & baby Marmalade and the struggles with cancer for both boys and the most recent passing of beautiful Cole. You will hear from Chris about one of his first rescue missions where he helped rescue over 40 cats from a terrible hoarding situation & what it was like being at the forefront of the rescue. He shares information about Chalky's Cat Crusade Inc (chalkyscatcrusade.org) an organisation Jess is involved with as well as local shelter who help Chris with his rescues & fosters Home - Happy Tailz Cat Rescue, Inc You can follow Chris , Cole & Marmalade Instagram @catmanchrispoole Facebook Cat Man Chris | Facebook YouTube Channel Cat Man Chris - YouTube Instagram Cole & Marmalade @coleandmarmalade Facebook Cole & Marmalade | Facebook Website Home - Cole & Marmalade (coleandmarmalade.com) Chris is one of the people who truly make a difference in the world. Often it is not all about the "doing" & is sometimes more than that, people are loved because of who they are & what they represent. Chris is a beautiful soul & the world is better because of his presence. He has clearly captured the world & we are lucky to share in the lives of sweet Cole & Marmalade too. Chris has really made a difference in my life over the years & I have always admired his work & joyful nature & I certainly feel so very lucky to have been able to speak with him, to feel his joy & also share his pain. Thank you so much Chris & also thank you for allowing me to "meet" Marmalade too! Hope you enjoy listening! Fiona X Support the show…

This episode is dedicated to the amazing Ashley who is mom to Dan a paralysed kitty who is living his best and fullest life ever thanks to her care and love!! Dan was adopted by Ashley and he was her first experience with a special needs cat but she knew she wanted to open up her heart and home to a special needs kitty and give them a wonderful life. She was lucky to be chosen as mom to Dan and when everything was sorted he came to live with her. Ashley learnt quickly how to express his bladder and ensure his toilet needs were catered for every day and picked it up so easily. Dan is easy to care for and Ashley chats about how living with a special needs kitty doesn't have to be difficult or scary. She describes his routines and what things to look out for in paralysed kitties which helps her ensure Dan is in tip top shape and healthy at all times. For anyone considering adopting a special needs kitty or in particular a paralysed kitty then Ashley will set your mind at ease and hopefully give you the confidence to enquire about doing so or perhaps try even fostering one while they wait for their golden basket. Ashley also set up Biscuits and Breadsticks which is a non profit organisation who foster neonatal babies and paralysed babies too. They give special care to neonatal's who would otherwise perish on the streets and by doing so help free up spaces in shelters who may not have the facilities to care for these little sweethearts during the night which is the most crucial times for some of them. Biscuits and Breadsticks also run a special initiative called Project Purrmaid which donate Purrmaid tails to paralysed kitties preventing them from suffering painful rubs on their legs if they are dragging themselves around on the floor. A lot of the drag bags available are expensive and often not even comfortable. The purrmaid tails are handmade by volunteers and the costs covered by donations. Sponsors are matched with their own purrmaid so they can continue to follow them on social media and see them in their new purrmaid attire! You can find this amazing initiative at Biscuits and Breadsticks where you can read all about Ashleys work and even donate to help cats just like Dan. First of all Happy New Years Eve and welcome to this episode of the podcast! The final one of 2021! I recently put a shout out asking if there were any people interested in being featured on my show. I received a lovely message from Bash asking if he could be a guest and I immediately said yes! All that was left to happen was to arrange a mutual time for both of us and the rest they say is history. I had previous correspondence with Bash as he listens to the show and told me how much he enjoyed it and that the podcast although about cats came in at a slightly different angle to so many others out there which was a great compliment to me and much appreciated. Bash is an advocate for fostering cats and helps his local shelter by doing this on a regular basis. Hi shelter is Four Paws Rescue who operate mainly in Delaware and the North Est Maryland areas but also have a branch in South Carolina where the founder lives. Bash works at an equine centre and was familiar with cats there who are the barn cats and also started rescue himself adding several cats to his furry family and then realised that through his love of gaming and cats he could do something amazing by combining both together and make some much needed funds to help cats in need and shelters. Bash redesigned his spare room which is his foster kitty room and people can watch him play games online on his Twitch channel while checking out the antics of the fosters who are happily playing in the background. He also hosts weekly cat chats and has a great following online. It was a pleasure to chat to Bash and learn so much about fostering and why it certainly saves lives and its something that anyone can do. If you were ever in doubt about your capability to help any of your local shelters then Bash will ease your worries and perhaps you too can save a life by freeing up a space in a shelter which can go to another cat in need. Thanks to people just like Bash who open up their homes so many little angels have a chance in life and so this work is vital and should be celebrated! Thank you Bash!! Please follow Bash on Instagram @crists4cats and check his gaming page on his twitch channel at http://twitch.tv/crits4cats The shelter he fosters for is www.fourpawsrescueandshelter.org Finally.... thank all of you for the amazing support the past year and I look forward to sharing many more stories of incredible inspiring people in 2021! An extra big thank you for supporting the Patreon and my other ventures which enable me to send money to cats and shelters in need. And if you are one of those currently wearing one of my hoodies then thank you so much! It makes me humble and warm inside. I appreciate you!!!!! Thanks for listening Fiona X Support the show…

1 Lets Chat About Cats - Episode 25 Christmas Miracle Special Featuring Kris Kaiser and Snapple AKA Tuxonwheels 59:28
Kris Kaiser is the foster mom of sweet little Snapple the star cat of our Christmas Miracle episode!! Snapple's story is one which is heart-warming and perfect for not only the festive season but all year round. Snapple is a beautiful young tuxedo cat who was spared from euthanasia because his foster mom simply gave him a chance to live. Being born with suspected Cerebellar Hypoplasia, it was later discovered after recognising that Snapple's legs were not functioning normally and it was discovered that his condition was worse that CH and he had brain and cervical spinal cord disease. Many cats with this condition cannot even pee or poop alone and euthanasia was suggested by the vet as a humane way to end Snapple's life because it was felt he had no quality of life. Snapple was about to show everyone just how wrong they were when his foster mom took him home to live his last few days being loved and cared for and he showed her he could play and was interested in life and all of the wonderful things in it, if only he could have this once chance and so his wish came true and Kris did everything to ensure he was given every chance to improve and become stronger. Snapple grew stronger and stronger and with the addition of his new cart he spends some of his day zooming around like the happy carefree little boy he deserves to be. This is how he gained his Instagram name @Tuxonwheels. Snapple enjoys everyday and is an inspiration to many of his followers and some humans who may be wheelchair bound have written to Kris to share how they feel about Snapple and how he inspires them to never give up and find the good in every day! Kris is an experienced foster mom with a passion for Tuxedos and she has 3 gorgeous Tuxedo's CH cats of her own! Rosie, Daisy and Calvin who each have a gorgeous personality of their own and make her smile everyday! They are full of fun and mischief and make a wonderful trio. Besides fostering Snapple, Kris also fosters Natalie a sweet little white kitten who is blind and also has CH. She is currently searching for a forever home for them, their new home does not have to be together but it has to be a special one where they have the care, love and attention they deserve. Check our Snapple's story which was featured on Cole and Marmalade Snapple the Disabled 'Tux on Wheels' Rolls into Daily Adventures (coleandmarmalade.com) and please follow him on Instagram @tuxonwheels and also his foster family @tippytuxies where you can see what he and they get up to every day! Figaro was found outside in January of 2019 with severe facial trauma. He was brought to the vet for care and surgery to try and save his life. Puppy Kitty NY City was the organisation who took on the care of Figaro and whilst he was recovering in the clinic Meagan was visiting him and was going to be the one fostering him until he found a home. Around the same time another cat (to be later named Corona) came in with similar facial injuries but just not as severe as Figaro's. Both kittens were to be fostered by Meagan and her husband however after sometime they both realised they did not wish to part with them and so they became members of their family and found their golden basket. Figaro has gone from strength to strength in his recover and Meagan explains a little bit more about his surgeries and how they have helped him and his current beauty regime that keeps him not only healthy but looking glamorous and beautiful. Figgy has gone through so much in his short life but does not let anything stop him, he is always somewhere playing, having fun, being naughty or demanding love. Even during our chat Figaro was almost in front of the screen the whole time being centre of attention, being cuddled, pampered and finally playing. He is such a sweet and funny guy you cannot help but love him for his sweetness. Meagan wrote a book called "The Story Of A Kitten Who Beat The Odds" and is written to encourage children who may be going through hospital visits the same as Figaro did whilst he was recovering and to show them that it does not have to be scary at all. The Puppy Kitty NY City is a fantastic organisation who previously ran without a physical shelter and from home but recently have new premises in Queens NY and can now take in more animals and save lives. Meaghan fills me in on that and also the super initiative called the Barn Cat Initiative which raises awareness of feral cats who cannot go back to the streets and places them in new secure homes in Barns or Sanctuary's where they can live a great life in the way they feel most comfortable, for we know ferals enjoy being free and aren't exactly lap cats but still deserve to live and be happy too. Well what can you say about Shannon Jay.... he is everything a hero should be and a little bit more!!!! Shannon Jay is an ex law enforcement officer who has now retired and when the need arises he will drive hours to enter the burn zones of Fire affected areas to rescue and locate cats who are missing, injured and often hours away from death. Shannon has cumulatively spent over three thousand hours in the burns zones of the Tubbs Fire, Paradise Fire as well as the most recent Dixie Fire. Shannon enters these areas when the air is so toxic and dangerous yet is filled only with determination to do what he is there to do.. save lives, to rescue and find as many cats as he can. Shannon has skills that would rival anyone. There is probably next to nothing that he doesn't know about rescuing and finding lost cats and especially those cats affected by the awful camp fires. His skills have enabled him to save cats from the brink of death, find them in time and reunite them with their families who have been heartbroken and sick with worry. Shannon even rescued a cat 222 days after a fire. His reputation goes before him and his success rate is one which is prolific and he is generally just an outstanding human being. Shannon shares during our chat the do's and do not's of working in these conditions, the behaviours of cats who are as you know some of the most skilled animals on the planet. He explains how to track them, their patterns and information which brings his story to life. For someone listening ,who like me, would probably never have a reason to be in a burn zone to fully understand what it is like then you will hear Shannon describes everything so visually that you feel part of his journey, as if you are there beside him. Shannon has a gift with words and doesn't hold back in educating others, he wants to help, he wants others to do what he does but in the best way possible and is passionate about his work in this field ,which by the way, comes from his heart and his whole being. Shannon has a gift, it goes without saying, but one thing that came across is his humility, his humbleness and his outright respect for the animals he does so much to rescue. You can tell from his every word that he cares deeply for these amazing beings, he is broken when he knows he could not or did not save them in time and yet finds something deep inside him which keeps him going doing what he does best. Shannon's respect for cats is evident to anyone listening or to anyone who has the privilege of spending any amount of time in his company. I witnessed it even if it was only virtually and in so many ways he was quite awe inspiring. I felt respect and trust for a man I have never met. The only way to describe it is to know that if anyone was to be out there searching for my lost cat then I would want it to be Shannon, I know I could trust him to do everything in his power to find them. Any cat saved by Shannon was and is a lucky one. The man is gifted. Besides saving cats from Fires and devastating burn zones Shannon also works with people around the world helping them to find lost cats, even so far as helping someone in the UK all the way from America. As I already said ... gifted! One thing I failed to mention to Shannon during the interview but which I noted and that was his thanks for his partner Heather. He recognised her part in his role during these fires and how its not only about him but about Heather too. That itself was beautiful to hear and I am sorry Shannon I did not mention it to you when we spoke, but I did hear you and know how much you truly appreciate the support you receive from Heather. Raphael Fimm is an award winning composer and orchestrator. Originally born in Germany Raphael moved to Vienna where he currently resides. Raphael describes himself as being late to the music world and yet what he has achieved in his life so far is remarkable. Raphael plays piano and it is his first love but also violin too. He found a passion in composing his own music very early in his career and this has led to the genius we are lucky to have today. Raphael was lucky to secure a scholarship at the SET school of entertainment and technology but also studied at the Berklee College of Music where his skills and knowledge on film scoring grew deeper and is demonstrated in his current projects and awards. Film scores have been a big part of Raphael's career and he has received many nominations including one for LE CONSTRUCTEUR DE MALHEUR (2015) for which he received a nomination at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards and the multi-award-winning Canadian documentary THE SUNRISE STORYTELLER (2017) which premiered at the UN in New York. In January 2021, Raphael won the award for Best Score at the Hollywood Art and Movie Awards for his soundtrack on the German cycling documentary TOUR DU TOGO . Raphael was an absolute joy to chat to and his work on the Fire Cats Movie is incredible. He has created some beautiful pieces to accompany various scenes during the movie. We chatted about how the creations took place, the process and I gained some understanding into his work and how everything comes together. Raphael has a love for cats too and really got involved emotionally with the many Fire Cats he learned about during the making of this piece of art. We are also lucky to listen to a piece of music on this episode called "The Last Farewell" which Raphael composed for his beloved cat Sonja who passed away at the age of 23. Thank you so much Raphael for sharing this with us! It is a beautiful and moving piece of music and I cry every time I hear it knowing the sentiment behind it. 1 Lets Chat About Cats - Episode 20 Featuring Singer and Musician Katey Brooks - Singer on The Fire Cats Movie 36:02
Katey Brooks is originally from Bristol but now resides in Manchester. She grew up knowing that music was a way to share her feelings and emotions. Through the gift of music and song she has shared some of her life with her fans. Katey has played on large stages such as Glastonbury and WOMAD and has been lucky enough to perform all over the world. Katey released an album of Bob Dylan songs as he was one of her favourite artists growing up and she loved to perform his music. Since then she has released her album REVOLUTE which was written and self produced by Katey. Katey has a unique voice which at times is haunting in a beautiful and raw way. You can feel her soul in her words and she is beautiful to listen to. She performed a version of Believe by Cher and its unrecognisable to the original as Katey has made it her own and its almost like she wrote it and it was never performed before, any other way. Katey was recommended to Katharine Parsons Director of the Fire Cats movie as being someone perfect for singing the end title credit song. Raphael Fimm had seen Katey perform in Cologne many years prior but he continued to follow her work and knew she was perfect for this ending to the film. I cannot say too much about the song, even the name of the song without spoiling parts of the movie for those who have not yet seen it but I can tell you that its placement is perfect and the meaning of the words in the song touches deep into the soul of the viewer and are unforgettable once you hear them. Raphael was correct in his choice and I could not imagine anyone else more suited to this song. It was a wonderful collaboration between Katey and Katharine to complete the song together. I am so excited for you to hear this song and that it will be released soon and everyone can enjoy this wonderful moving piece of art. Katey is on tour soon and you can find information about her upcoming shows and purchase her music on her website which is Home - KATEY BROOKS and also on Instagram you can follow her at @kateybrooks Her new single is also just out and it is a cover of Phil Collins "In The Air Tonight" another beautiful haunting song! Joy Smith along with her sister Jann set up Fieldhaven Feline Centre back in 2003. It wasn't quite what it is now and back then consisted of a humble barn and small number of cats. However, the mission and the sentiment behind the work was the same and it was created to save and enrich the lives of cats. Since those humble beginnings Fieldhaven has grown from strength to strength and has increased the amount of work it is able to carry out thanks to the growth in funding from their dedicated followers and benefactors. They now host several different areas dedicated to special needs and elderly cats and Fieldhaven became a centre in 2013 enabling them to demonstrate it was more than just a rescue centre but the "centre" of all that mattered in the lives of those who were taken under the wings of the angels at Fieldhaven. Fieldhaven is a sanctuary for all who enter its door but its so much more than that, it is a community where people and animals alike truly "belong" and due to recent events in the Paradise Fire in 2018 it became the epitome of what any rescue centre should strive to be. Facing adversity through the harrowing conditions the staff were working in they fought with all of their being to set up a space worthy enough of the enormous task ahead, a task which would continue for Joy for 7 whole months of her life. At a time when many cats needed Joy and her helpers the most they stepped up and did whatever they could and needed to. With the help of Alley Cat Allies Alley Cat Allies | An Advocacy Organization for All Cats | Learn How to Help Pet, Stray, Feral and Community Cats Today they were able to spring into action and their monstrous task began. At the forefront of the rescues during the Paradise Fire, Fieldhaven were able to care for 641 cats. 142 were reunited with their families, 353 found new homes, 124 ferals were returned to their original colonies, 4 cats were given a forever home at Fieldhaven and sadly 8 passed away. Although this was a testing time for Joy and Fieldhaven it has become a monumental part of her life as cat rescuer and carer. Joy remembers it with not only sadness but happiness and immense pride and carries it into her daily life now. This is an incredible episode where I had the pleasure of speaking with Katharine Parsons from Ravenshoe Media. Katharine is the director of the upcoming documentary movie "The Fire Cats" (not yet released but which has been submitted to several festivals) and I am sure this is going to be selected by many of them and hopefully will be a winner of many awards. The project has developed and been created over some time and Katharine has produced something quite amazing and that is putting it mildly! Had everyone seen the film I could say more but it is a top secret for now so I am careful with what I say and share to respect Katharine's hard work. What I can say is that many of these types of movies can be shocking and not for the fainthearted but Katharine has treated what is a sensitive subject matter with grace, dignity and kindness. It isn't projected brutally or harsh and yes it is sad at times but when it truly matters and is still dealt with so elegantly. That is a skill in itself to be able to pull this off the way Katharine has done so. The Tubbs fire and subsequent Paradise fire destroyed so many homes when they occurred, they left many humans dead and those who survived were left with nothing, some even lost their beloved pets in the fires and could not get back into the burn zones to try and find out if they survived, Katharine originally documented the Tubbs fire, however, when Paradise happened she knew that her original movie was going to become something much more than what was originally planned. Over the past years Katharine has headed up an amazing team of people who have all in some way contributed something special to this movie. Shannon Jay the prolific Fire Cat Rescuer features through the movie and you get a true and real insight into the things he faces and deals with whilst doing his incredible work. Raphael Fimm a composer from Austria composed the music throughout, there is an appearance vocally by the talented Katey Brooks. Douglas Thron the renowned cinematographer worked with Shannon during the rescues and provided much of the drone footage. Joy Smith from Fieldhaven Feline Rescue was instrumental in providing much of the help required to protect the "feral yet non feral cats". You will understand when you watch the movie. This was a real collaboration with important and valuable people at the core of it all and no one less so than Katharine to have the vision to create something sad yes but also something incredibly beautiful. The film strap line "Save Something Small" says it all..... just hurry up and watch it as soon as you can!!!! This episode is dedicated to Eli the amazing mom of Dusty who is a campfire survivor. Dusty was caught up in the devastating campfire of 2018. At this time the campfire was one of the most destructive and deadly in the history of California and tragically killed around 85 people and unknown numbers of wildlife and many cats. During this campfire due to the location of Paradise many people could not even make it back to their homes to find their beloved cats and animals and many cats located in this area were also feral and because of this they had no one to come looking for them at that time. Eli gives us a great insight to the aftermath of the horrendous fire and the lengths people had to go to just to get into the area to continue the search for cats who they prayed had somehow survived. Thousands of cats were saved and many were found months after the fire was under control. How they survived this and for so long is incredible and almost unbelievable and demonstrates just how strong cats can be even under the most awful circumstances. Dusty somehow survived and was thankfully nursed back to care. His journey however was a long and slow one and he spent 3 months in the veterinary clinic for 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree burns. With scar tissue in his sinus and lung damage caused by the smoke and fire we can only imagine how Dusty suffered. He also has no toe beans or foot pads due to the fire so you can understand through that alone just how extensive his injuries were. Dusty also suffers from a rare condition called Feline Hyper Esthesia which may have been caused by the trauma of the fire too. Despite all of the trauma Dusty has fought to survive and is now enjoying his life with his family and he is quite a character! Eli shares all of Dusty's story and so much more. Dusty now lives happily with his siblings Dammit and Dew and you will hear all about them too. What can you say about Pen Farthing....??? Some view him as a national hero for the work he has carried out to help and save animals but in the recent months the British Media have had nothing but a target on his back. Pen Farthing comes from a military background most recently serving in Afghanistan. It was there he encountered a special dog (he later named Nowzad after the town they were based in the Helmund area of Afghanistan) and when the troops were moving on he knew he had to do all he could to save this dog and several others he was caring for at that time. After a long journey in awful conditions most of the dogs made it safely to the rescue centre and it was only a year later Pen realised more soldiers wanted to bring dogs home after serving and so Nowzad was born. In 2007 Nowzad began the mission of helping cats, dogs and donkeys within the Afghanistan area. Animals which would otherwise have been left to fend for themselves and face a horrible death through starvation, cruelty, illness or disease. Pen worked tirelessly with his amazing team and created a special place for these animals to be healed, spayed, neutered and find homes, sending them all over the world through adoptions. Pen also employed women as vets and workers and this supported modern values and respect within a country which had previously been known for treating women as second class citizens, often worthless. In 2021 President Joe Biden announced the removal of the US troops in Afghanistan and shortly after the UK troops also started to leave. It was an emergency situation and the country was thrown into chaos as many people tried to flee the country which was swiftly taken over by the Taliban and people were desperate to find a way out. Pen wanted to get himself and his staff to safety as well as his beloved animals. This was not easy and was like battling through a series of gauntlets. Facing violence and danger head on eventually Pen made it onto an aircraft with his animals and was brought with them to the UK. This was not easy or simple and the situation was changing hour by hour. No one can imagine the stress and anxiety this must have caused Pen and his team. After Pen's return to the UK the British Media published many untruths about Pen and Nowzad and he had to speak his own truth to those who cared enough to listen. I was more than ready to listen. Pen tells me about his departure from the place which had become his home, the struggle in trying to get his staff and animals to safety and what life is like for the small number who decided to stay behind for various reasons and who now take care of the donkeys and horses who could not be evacuated. He talks about his career in the beginning and his plans for the future of Nowzad and updates me on the animals currently in quarantine and those who have been thankfully already adopted into wonderful new homes. Pen has done so much for animals in a war stricken country and deserves support and to speak his truth. Thank you Pen for all you have done! You really are a the epitome of what a hero should be! In this episode I had the pleasure of chatting with the lovely Frances who is the mom of Courage and who lives in Seattle. Courage's story is one which is more than difficult to swallow and makes her mom choke up even to this day just thinking about it. It is a story of cruelty but also of hope and survival and that there is always good in the world to counteract any evil. Courage was once a feral cat living in the countryside. She was part of a colony of feral cats who were cared for by an elderly gentleman. One day she just disappeared and a few days later she returned and the gentleman noticed that someone had deliberately cut off her ears and her tail. He did what he could to clean the wounds and help heal them but Courage developed many health issues and he was no longer able to take care of her. He asked the Seattle Area Feline Rescue if they could help him and they did. Courage was taken into foster care where she spent several months with a special lady called Shelley who nursed her back to health and gave her the start she needed when searching for her final forever home. Frances was the lucky one chosen to be Courage's new forever mom and so welcomed Courage into her home. Frances shares details of the various health issues that Courage suffered due to her past life and living conditions, the many surgeries she has had to have and also how she struggled with Courage at the beginning and did not know if she had done the right thing adopting her. Frances explains that she was glad she was patient and how it is important to give cats time to adjust and that everything can be ok in the end. Courage is now living happily with her brothers Ashton and Tyson who look after her very well! You can hear about her joyful playtimes and the little habits she has and funny things she does keeping her whole family amused everyday. Courage is quite a character and has touched many hearts with her story. If there was ever a cat who can give more love than she ever could receive then it would be little Courage. In this episode I chatted with the lovely Katherine from Blind Cat Rescue in North Carolina. Blind Cat Rescue sounds like just an ordinary and normal blind cat shelter but if you are thinking this then you are mistaken! This special place takes care of not only blind cats but cats who are FIV+ and FELV+. The sanctuary was set up in 2005 by the founder Alana and her daughter, a mother and daughter team. Laws in North Carolina do not protect blind, sick or injured animals and the "norm" is to humanely euthanise cats in this situation. Alana couldn't stand back and do nothing to help these poor creatures so she set up a shelter on her land and since then has only increased the capacity and space available so that she can help more and more cats who are blind, FIV+ and FELV+. She became a true lifeline and last chance for these cats who would otherwise have been killed through no fault of their own. Now they can live a long and happy life with people they trust and who love them very much. Alana and her team currently care for around 60 cats on site but at normal capacity (non Covid times) they can accept up to 100 cats. All cats who come to the shelter are forever family members and are not adopted out, their home is for life and so the shelter depend on donations to keep operating and helping these beautiful souls. The shelter is split into rooms with an inside area and also safe and secure "Catio" type area outside. The cats are split into these rooms with smaller groups of other cats so they become friends and their personalities match too. You can watch them online any time of the day through the online webcams so if you adopt a cat at a distance then you can be sure to see them on a daily basis as well as through the daily Instagram and Facebook live tours! Alana believes that any cat who comes to live at the shelter has already suffered enough and so this is the reason why they are not rehomed and given some stability and the love from all who care for them. Please check out the website on Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary and also the stories of the cats here Meet all the wonderful blind,, FIV & leukemia positive residents of Blind Cat Rescue. You can follow the cats on Instagram on @blindcatsrescue and they also have twitter and a Youtube channel so you wont be bored following the antics of the beautiful cats! Katherine works on the fundraising team as well as creating the monthly newsletter and keeping in touch with supporters so is very hands on and creative! She fills us in on some of the day to day workings of the shelter, how it was founded and tells us who her favourite cat is... who will it be? And just for the record mine is a joint favourite (because I cannot decide) of WIFI and Serena! but they are all sweet and deserving of love! Enjoy! Fiona x Support the show…

In this episode I chatted with Courtney who is the face of Poets Square Cats. What or who is Poets Square Cats...? well it is a semi feral cat colony in Tucson, Arizona and Courtney is the incredible young woman taking care of this colony in her own neighbourhood. Courtney's journey is almost one of chance for moving home meant she became familiar with the colony of cats in her local area and her own garden and started to help take care of them. One of the first tasks was of course to carry out TNR work and neuter and Spey as many of them as possible, some were easier to catch than others but it did not deter Courtney and she has continued her work trapping and finding ways to catch the elusive ones to keep the population down. She is now responsible for around 30 cats and if you follow her on Instagram you will be familiar with some of the wonderful characters such as Sad Boy, Monster Paws, Monkey, MK, Georgie and Sad Mouth Sam! Courtney helps others in her local area by providing traps, food and educating people on ways they too can help. She is an advocate for TNR and sterilisation but also wherever possible she will find forever homes for the not so feral cats who she believes can adjust to a home environment where they can be safe and loved. For such a young woman to take all of this on by herself its really an incredible story of the difference just one person can make if they just start and do something and how any change can be a positive change. Since we are all animal lovers it is something we have all experienced at some time in our lives or will experience at one time in the future unfortunately. Having pets who we all love so much it goes without saying that the loss of our beloved friend can often become the biggest void in our lives and the most painful experience. We can often feel alone, isolated and that sometimes no one understands what we are going through. This episode is dedicated to everyone who has suffered loss, to everyone who has struggled to make sense of the grief and pain and very often the guilt. Many questions were sent in from the listeners directly so I hope they help those who took the time to ask something which they were seeking help for, some clarity on or relief and healing. SO cute and so fun! Mick at that time had set up his you tube channel to upload videos of his cats for his family members to see them growing and having fun and little did he know that this video would be picked up all around the world and everyone would fall in love with little Oskar. Oskar has sadly passed away and his death was one which was very sudden and shocked the cat community as they all mourned his loss. Oskar and Klaus were a dynamic duo visiting schools and working with children and especially blind children. Mick has published children's books about the adventures of Klaus and Oscar and since Oskar was a blind cat the books were also published in braille so that blind children could join in the fun and follow Klaus and Oskar on their big adventures. Not wanting to leave Klaus lonely after Oskar's passing Mick and his family opened up their home to another cat , she is Juno, is also blind and she is extremely beautiful. Juno joined the family but there was space for another member to join too and that space was filled by the lovely little George, also blind and so he completes the pack perfectly! Hear all about the lives of Oskar, Klaus, Juno and George and their backstories, how being blind is not a disability and doesn't stop any of the gang doing things that other cats do. This is a wonderful family and it was such a joy to chat to Mick and if you listen closely you will hear Juno during the interview! How lucky was I! Follow the original page of Klaus and Oskar on Instagram @theklauscat and follow the adventures of Juno and George @thejunocat and the rescue site of @paws_wa Thanks for listening! Support the show…

In this episode I chatted with the lovely Linda Van Gelder the secretary from the Stichting Buitenlandse Asielen (SBA) who are a non profit organisation based in the Netherlands. SBA is a foundation helping other animal shelters all around the world. They provide not only financial help for a guaranteed period of agreed time but they also assist with ways to make the shelters operate better, more efficiently and provide other vital support. Once the shelters are able to cope on their own and no longer need the help of SBA then they go it alone but SBA maintain contact and will lend further support if necessary and encourage the shelters to continue their positive work and are very happy when the shelters become self sufficient as it means they have helped them enough for them to do so. The SBA currently provides financial help and assistance for between 17-22 shelters around the world from places such as Colombia and Costa Rica in Central and South America. In Europe places such as Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Spain, Slovakia and the Torre Argentina Cat Sanctuary in Rome. SBA even help shelters as far away as Asia in Sri Lanka and Thailand. SBA was set up in 1983 by Mrs Diny Brummelman and has a cooperation agreement with the Dutch Government. The organisation relies on donations to keep operating and passes these much needed funds onto the various shelters receiving their support. You can find SBA on Instagram @stichtingbuitenlandseasielen and their new website is being created currently and you can find it when its operational on Stichting Buitenlandse Asielen is under construction but in the meantime check out their old website for more about this fantastic organisation! Today I chat with the inspirational Rachael from Saving Seniors who is giving some wonderful golden oldies a second chance at living! Rachael's mission is to save seniors from the euthanasia lists in the USA. Many shelters due to unfortunate circumstances have time-stamps on their incoming cats and dogs. This means many people have to spring into action to ensure these lives are saved otherwise these animals face euthanasia. It is not something any shelter takes lightly and part of the help offered to these shelters comes from people just like Rachael. Working with many others they pull animals from this awful scenario and give them a home for the rest of their senior days, whether it be weeks, months or years. Rachel has saved over 30 seniors and is in the process of renovating her home so she can offer more to these wonderful saved cats and dedicate more to them. There are many reasons for these cats being surrendered and Rachael tells us about it all, she also tells us about the various health issues these cats face and how and what she does to help. There are large networks of people working together to do what they can to help and Rachael as a young woman is inspirational for all that she does on her own. Rachael tells us about some of her wonderful residents and my favourite one Victor who pulls at everyone's heart strings and who is just adorable! Plus she fills us in on how it really feels to love and lose these special cats who are given a second chance and what an honour it is to be with them in their final days or moments. Rachael was inspired to do this work by her mom who is an end of life carer and so many cats have benefited from her kind heart and love for animals. In todays episode I had the pleasure of chatting with Emily the mom of Moet the Blind Cat. Moet and Emily live in Oman which is an area with no regulated pet shops or laws in place to protect the welfare and wellbeing of animals in the country. Due to this lack of protection many animals suffer unnecessarily and Moet is one of those animals who suffered at the hands of others. She was kept inside a wire cage for around 11 months, sick and blind and mostly alone. Moet however is a survivor and after an amazing rescue she found her wonderful forever home with Emily. Her story is one of hope and never giving up even if the odds are against you. Emily shares the story of Moet which is a gut wrenchingly sad one, just thinking about how she must have suffered so much during those first months of her life is heart-breaking. Moet, since those sad days has developed her own unique character and is quite a diva as well as being incredibly sweet and Emily has a wonderful bond with her. Emily works hard now to promote the welfare rights of other animals and shares her experience with us an others of living with a blind cat. She raises funds and donates all profits to the welfare of other animals and is part of the Omani Paws project which helps rescue, foster and find homes for the animals of Oman. Moet is a star on Instagram as well as recently on Tik Tok! Check out her Instagram page on @moetblindcat and see what shes been up to! Support the show…
