Our latest podcast covers the weekend action in the Scottish Cup semi finals. Regulars John, Danny, Graeme D and Stephen are joined by Ethan from The Dugout. Things kick off with us discussing our feelings ahead of the games in terms of nerves, excitements and bodily movements. The chat leads on to the same on Saturday as we discuss the game itself. Did Hearts change in tactics at half time after the sending off help or hinder how the game went? It's little surprise that officiating standard and VAR is discussed as is an often occurrence after high profile games. In terms of Sunday we discuss how easy it ended up being for Celtic and whether fans are bored by domestic success. There is a bit of fun at the end as we try to come up with some Easter related footballers in Scottish football. Thanks as always for listening! John is off this week as our Chico takes the hot seat - coincidentally on the back of Hibs spanking Dundee 4-0. The lads review the weekend's action, delve into the delights of the highland league and discuss the ongoing misery of supporting any team in the bottom six, and it's all to play for in the title race as Rangers have mounted their comeback - I didn't hear no bell! John is joined by fans from four of the teams in the Championship with Katie, Cammy, Heather and David being on. We begin by getting David to give us an insight to the situation at Queen's Park both on and off the pitch. This leads on to what it might mean in the future for the club. There is still a race for secure the final playoff spot for the Premiership playoffs so there is some chat about what may happen there. The battle to avoid the drop is discussed with Katie being in fairly confident mood. Cammy discusses how Ayr are stumbling to the playoffs and what may need to happen for them to have any chance of going up. Will we get an Ayrshire derby in the playoff final? The rest of the league is discussed in terms of the box office material at Dunfermline just now and more. We finish off by discussing box office signings over the years, modern trends that should be kicked to the kerb and reconstruction impact on the Championship. Thanks as always for listening! It's your monthly dose of women's football content and once again here to administer it is Dave and guest Casey. With the SWPL title race continuing into the league split, they discuss the contenders. Are Celtic and Elena Sadiku on the same page? Are they out of it along with Hearts? Can leaders Hibernian be title challengers or was the League Cup final a harbinger of doom? Are Rangers the full package? Should people be writing off Glasgow City? On the other side of the split, there's questions about what Partick Thistle can do now, what direction are Aberdeen heading going into next season, and are the bottom three now decided already? Then of course there's a look ahead to match days three and four of the Nations League and the double header against Germany. Can Scotland get off the mark after a good showing against the Dutch, albeit against a tough opponent? Thanks as always for listening! Five years since league reconstruction was last briefly discussed by the SPFL, and promptly batted away into the night sky, Improving Scottish Football Podcast host Kieran Hennigan revisited the topic with a one minute video promoting a 14 team Premiership idea. The video went viral with over 800,000 views on Twitter/X alone. John B invited Kieran onto discuss the pros and cons of a 14 team Scottish Premiership and why he thinks this is the way forward, and not just in the top flight either. There is a good honest discussion about the effects of a promotion/relegation structure, how the 14 team structure works in Greece, would a more even split work better than a top six/bottom eight and also how the setup would improve youth development. Kieran also discusses his plans to evolve his podcast that he hopes one day will see those at the top embrace change, with league reconstruction just one of many areas in Scottish Football that needs addressing. We're back with our next installment of the Championship specials as John is joined by fans from 8 of the teams in the league. David is on representing Queen's Park for the first time along with Alan, Ali, Heather, Katie, Cammy, Euan and Robert. It's the biggest Championship episode we've done as they continue to grow. The podcast kicks off by looking at the title race. Are all three of the fans involved confident? There is an interesting race for the last Premiership playoff spot with it being safe to say that some fans are more confident than others that they'll succeed. Have Airdrie left things too late to avoid the drop? Katie gives her views on whether they can stay up. We conclude the podcast by getting the guests to pick cult heroes from their clubs and discuss some of the best players in the league this season. Thanks as always for listening! Following two defeats for SWNT in the Women's Nations League, Dave is joined by John Bl to pick over how the games against Austria and Netherlands went for Scotland. With Emma Lawton coming in and getting the opening goal of against the Dutch, they consider if she's now a mainstay, as well as wondering if Michael McArdle will still be the interim coach when the next set of fixtures come around in April. Longer term, there's questions as to where the next manager will come from and if that might be further afield than Scotland once more. Of course, after two defeats, there's questions around the possible defensive frailties that led to the goals, especially in two narrow defeats in what could be a tight Nations League group. Looking forward, the SWPL moves into its post-split phase and with four teams level on 51 points it's an exciting final ten games ahead in terms of the title! Thanks as always for listening! The guys reflect on yet another defeat for the national side, meaning it's now just one win in fifteen matches, although they try to put some context around that. Looking across the squad, they try to anticipate/hope what the team might be for the Portugal match and look for some of the positives that might have come from all the injuries. Mostly they start with "B" and end in "en Doak". There's the inevitable discussion around what could/should happen if/when Steve Clarke's time is up, with a couple of left field suggestions for who might come in to replace him - be it after the Nations League campaign or after World Cup qualifying (and preferably the World Cup itself). John, Charlie, Josh and Laurie are on as we reflect on the double header in Nations League A. There is plenty of discussion with us starting off by analysing how we thought everyone played against Poland. Clarke changed to a four at the back which fans were pleading for him to do. Did it make a huge difference in terms of performance levels? Once again there is chat about Clarke's future and who the alternatives might be if he was to go. The pressure continues due to the recent record in competitive matches especially. The introduction of Doak was a positive and leads to a strong reaction from Josh. Once again on Sunday, Scotland were the victims of conceding a late goal which is becoming a worrying habit. We discuss the performance against Portugal and whether tactically the approach was correct. Let us know your thoughts on the episode and make sure to give us a follow on our social media. Regulars John, Charlie, Graeme, Josh and Laurie are joined by returning guests, Hearts fan Graeme. Charlie kicks things off by looking at this day in Scottish football over the years before we have some lower league chat. European action takes centre stage when Kilmarnock and Hearts both looking to recover from 1st leg defeats. There is some good debate about McInnes and his approach to the away game and whether he should have been more positive. Hearts have started the season poorly domestically and there is chat about Naismith and whether he may be under any pressure. There is some chat too about the weekend action in the Premiership. Dave is joined by regular guest Eva Murray for the latest look across the women's game in Scotland. First up is a look at SWPL1 and how the title race is hotting up with just two points separating the top four and six points separating the top five. Further down the table, the race for the top six continues, as well as a resurgent Aberdeen who are probably just a bit too late to be joining that battle. With Motherwell four points clear of Partick Thistle and the split just three games away, is it theirs to lose? The weekend saw Scottish Cup action, with Glasgow City edging out Celtic in the tie of the round. There's a look back at that, the other games that took place, and the draw for the fifth round. Finally on the international front, Michael McArdle will be in charge for the two fixtures in February, including the Netherlands visit to Hampden. Whilst there's also a look further forward to the double header against Germany, with the home game taking place in Dundee. Thanks as always for listening! In the first women's football podcast of the new year, Dave is joined by returning guests Casey and Grant to discuss what's been happening in the SWPL lately. With Glasgow City currently in the driving seat at the top of the league, they discuss what that might mean for the title challenge. Has the Rangers title challenge faltered due to a lack in midfield? Will Celtic, free from the distraction of Europe, have a stronger second half to the season? Will Hearts and Hibernian continue to keep it interesting at the top and make it a five team title race? Further down the league table there's a lot to discuss as well from who'll make the top six to who the relegation candidates are, particularly that third from bottom spot which is currently only separated by goal difference between Montrose and Aberdeen. They also discuss who the stand out players have been so far this season, what the BBC Scotland TV deal might mean for the SWPL, and have a preview of the weekend's action - assuming the weather permits it! Turning briefly to the national team, they are of course currently managerless with the departure of Pedro Martinez Losa. Hopefully there'll be someone in place ahead of the upcoming Nations League campaign which starts towards the end of February. Thanks as always for listening! One that we definitely need to explore further as always leads to plenty of interesting points. The Dundee United v St Mirren game kicks off our Premiership chat as we reflect on some controversial discussions in the game. Charlie reflects on what has been a positive week for Hibs and gives us an idea of what has changed. It was a nice week for Rangers in Europe but they contributed to struggle domestically despite winning. Is Josh now changing his mind about whether Clement should stay? It's a podcast of two halves ahead of Scotland's crucial Euro 2025 qualifying playoff final tie against Finland and a huge chance to make a return to a major tournament. In the first half, Dave is joined by Casey Atkin. They reflect on just how big this tie is for SWNT as a whole but also Pedro Martinez Losa, particularly with an emphasis on the importance of the home leg first at Easter Road on Friday. They give their team predictions, and have a bit of fun with a cap quiz too. In the second half, John is joined by SWNT royalty. The all time top goalscorer with a staggering 116 goals in 121 appearances, Julie Fleeting. They look back over how the campaign has gone so far, through the Nations League B campaign and the semi final against Hungary, even picking up the results with the influence of captain Rachel Corsie. They look at the gradual progression the team have been making, and how that along with the return of Chelsea Cornet might just help us take some revenge against a Finland side who have been a problem for us in the past. Good luck to Scotland in this tie, and hopefully it's onwards to Switzerland next year! Regulars John, Charlie and Jeff are joined by Hearts fan Graeme as domestic football returns. To kick off the show, Jeff leads on the precarious situation at Dumbarton with them going in to administration. This leads on to Graeme giving us an insight in to what it was like when Hearts went in to administration in 2013. Dundee United's good away from continued at Ibrox as Rangers struggled once again. The rumours surfaced again that Clement had left but as of now he's still manager of the club. We discuss some of the issues at Rangers which seems to be a regular occurrence. Graeme speaks about the impact that Critchley has made at Hearts so far and tells us who he thinks they need to get rid of in January. The situation regarding Shankland is discussed as he has come out and said he won't sign a new contract. Should he still be captain? Aberdeen lost their first game in the league at the weekend but John isn't overly concerned. There is chat regarding Leighton Clarkson though and his struggle to find consistently good form.
