We’ve turned intuition into a buzzword—flattened it into a slogan, a gut feeling, or a vague whisper we don’t always know how to hear. But what if intuition is so much more? What if it's one of the most powerful tools we have—and we’ve just forgotten how to use it? In this episode, I’m joined by Hrund Gunnsteinsdóttir , Icelandic thought leader, filmmaker, and author of InnSæi: Icelandic Wisdom for Turbulent Times . Hrund has spent over 20 years studying and teaching the science and art of intuition through her TED Talk, Netflix documentary (InnSæi: The Power of Intuition), and global work on leadership, innovation, and inner knowing. Together, we explore what intuition really is (hint: not woo-woo), how to cultivate it in a culture obsessed with logic and overthinking, and why your ability to listen to yourself might be the most essential skill you can develop. In This Episode, We Cover: ✅ Why we’ve misunderstood intuition—and how to reclaim it ✅ Practical ways to strengthen your intuitive muscle ✅ What Icelandic wisdom teaches us about inner knowing ✅ How to use intuition during uncertainty and decision-making ✅ Why trusting yourself is an act of rebellion (and power) Intuition isn’t magic—it’s a deep, internal guidance system that already exists inside you. The question is: are you listening? https://shippingpodcast.com/222-philip-chaabane-ceo-i-tech/Revisiting a Swedish maritime startup, now noted on NASDAQ Antifouling coatings are necessary to protect a ship’s hull from attaching marine organisms. Ship owners need marine coating solutions that deliver fouling prevention for vessels with differing activity levels, shipping routes and construction. Selektope® is a unique biocide that, through biotechnology, creates the possibility of more sustainable and efficient marine paint systems. When attached to a ship’s hull, barnacles harm the hydrodynamic drag. The hard shells cause increased friction between the hull and water, directly related to increased fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Listen to Philip Chaabane, the CEO of i-tech, when he describes the journey for this maritime startup. There are so many lessons learned that he shares! #everyconversationmatters…

Why is it important with a diverse and inclusive maritime industry? I was invited to the European Parliament to participate on a panel discussion on Empowering Women in the Maritime industry and the role of the EU, organised by Miss Vera Tax (MEP). Since you were not there, and I took the time to prepare my interjections, I thought that it would be a good idea to share my thoughts on this topic with you. At a later stage, I might be able to share with you what was said since I have asked for the audio files to be released to me. We cannot withold all the wisdom shared in that room from you. Since there is more transportation on the water than onshore, maritime transport is dependent on trade. That's why this episode is all about trade. Cecilia Malmstrom, Former EU Commissioner for Trade and now a non-resident senior fellow at PIIE (Peterson Institute for International Economics), is the interviewee in episode 181. We discuss shipping from a global trade perspective. Cecilia has been representing the EU in various trade negotiations. I have had a wonderful conversation about how well the maritime industry matches the tech industry when attracting the next generation and the talents that we need. I spoke with Caitlin Hardy , Vice President, Programs, Kongsberg Maritime Inc., and am happy to share this in the 179th episode of the Shipping Podcast. We also speak about the culture of the maritime industry and how brave Caitlin is to have changed jobs a couple of times to be able to get a perspective on our beloved industry. Caitlin is also coming up with suggestions for the challenges we all face. For example, there are ways to eat the elephant, bit by bit. What is your view? We discuss digitalisation, electronic paperwork, HSQE Health, safety, quality and environment, and why. We continue with diversity, harassment, bullying and safety again. I think you want to listen to Sofia, and after having done so, will you argue with me when I say that the maritime industry needs more people like her? What is your view? Captain John Konrad is THE influencer in the maritime industry. He started the gCaptain , which is currently the largest media outlet in the maritime domain. No one speaks about Über in the Silicon Valley anymore, they talk about Flexport, and they talk about the maritime industry." John is a big fan of Greta Thunberg; she says things people don't want to hear. But, that is what we also need to do; talk about the good and the bad in our industry. If we don't acknowledge the problems we have as an industry, then we cannot solve them - and become better. We continue the discussion about; what is a fair future for seafarers? Dr Jason Zuidema, Executive Director, North American Maritime Ministry Association, NAMMA, share his view on what we need to do to make seafarers keyworkers. He says it's about respect and using the instruments already in place. Abandonment in 2021 is a disgrace. Also, seafarers must be able to trust that they get paid. Jason thinks seafaring it's an honourable profession. Seafarers are very proud to be seafarers; it's the uncertainty that is wearing down. It's not the hard work or the hardship that comes with leaving loved ones; it's the uncertainty of now knowing when you come back the next time or if you get paid. In the end, Jason does a call for support of seafarers; everyone can do something to show kindness to international seafarers. Make sure you listen to the end. What is your view on what Jason says, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks for listening.…

During the pandemic, we have seen a crew change crises. Seafarers have not been able to travel between the ships that constitute their workplace and their country of residence due to travel restrictions. High-level meetings have been taking place, aiming to get seafarers designated as "key-workers", which would lead to exemption from specific COVID-related travel restrictions and make it possible for the 200,000 stranded seafarers to become repatriated. Here is a link to IMOs Q and As about the crew change crises . Currently, the next step towards normality is vaccination. The key-workers status would move seafarers up the line in the queue. The next step after that is how to prove vaccination and clearance for Covid-19 through a negative test. One suggestion is a Digital Health Pass, and that is what this episode is addressing. Meet Anthony Day, working at IBM in Dublin, who focuses on digital health pass and how complicated it can be to get national health authorities to agree on a global standard. Anthony describes how a digital health pass would make the certification easy to show on a mobile device when travelling or entering a sports arena.
