I believe in always doing the right thing for your customer, even if it requires uncomfortable decisions, or taking a financial hit on my end. It's also why I've decided to not sell the Whistler retreat to you anymore. I want to sell the RIGHT things, to the RIGHT people... THAT m'friends is when you're in true integrity. You know your people are going to get results, because you're moving them into the RIGHT offer for where they are at. So, when I found myself in some recent sales conversations realizing that the entrepreneurs I was talking to were NOT in fact retreat ready, I didn't sell it...I didn't sell the one thing I'm "supposed" to be selling right now... If you go listen to my dear diary episode from a few months ago { episode 243 } -- it will make more sense -- but I’ve been a bit confused on how I wanted this podcast to fit it. I was wanting it to fit in perfectly versus just allowing it to be what it wanted to be, or allowing it to be fun. I’m super focused on making sure this podcast is of value to you, but I was overanalyzing and self-judging a bit too much if I’m being honest. I didn’t feel the name fit for what I was evolving into. I felt it was too broad, but maybe that’s what it needs to be over here. I didn’t want to put too much on my plate with the Pop-Up podcast being tested out. Inspired by an episode and blog post by J ess Lively called Things I’m Afraid to Tell You ..I think I’ll also be doing one of my own soon -- all the things I’ve been afraid to tell you, which might be a bit cathartic for me and will maybe put this whole show back into flow for me...who knows...coming soon. But today I want to talk about Affiliate launches since I’m right in the middle of one with Selena Soo for her Impacting Millions and I’ve had some pretty successful ones over the past year with Todd Herman. I partnered with Todd Herman’s program twice last year and become his affiliate partner of the year for selling the most overall -- I had 109 students enroll through me over the last year which was AMAZING -- yes financially, but also because I believe so much in Todd’s work and know how much it will support these students, AND I know I can help support them even more alongside his work than if they just did his program without me! But more of that later. I want to take you...behind the scenes. Selena’s program is IN launch right now her doors to Impacting Millions close on Thursday, March 30th -- so it’s a bit crazy for me to talk about this now, but it felt right. I may even have another episode where I can do the full debrief if you’re interested. Affiliate launching behind the scenes So first -- what is an affiliate launch --- this just means that I’m partnering with someone else to promote their program/offer -- and in return for that promotion I sometimes get a percentage of that sale. Think of it like a referral based system. Part 1 I don’t treat it like an affiliate launch. I treat these launches as if they are my own launches. They’re not a side or afterthought. I am ALL IN. It was our HIGHEST PRIORITY. We do weekly stand up calls on my team to discuss tasks and priorities and for the past 6 weeks -- THIS has been the focus. our team knows that this is the highest priority focus right now, and has been for the past 6 weeks -- between the free challenge, the podcast, and the launch -- it’s been at the top of everyone’s list. Part 2 Continuing the Conversation from free content to paid offer I planned for MONTHS in advance to make sure our content focus leading into the launch was all about publicity and the benefits, my own experiences, planning the guest interview with Selena, etc. I mean heck, we started an entire PODCAST, a FB community, and free challenge focused around this topic. So, for the past 6 weeks, I’ve been making sure it was the center of our conversation with our audience and within our own team. Part 3 The Trust I’ve Built I’ve worked hard to build trust with my audience, I’m consistent {except when I’m not -- like on this podcast lately}, honest, deliver tons of value for free, and so on...so I do not take these affiliate launches lightly. It takes a LOT for me to decide if I’m going to promote someone else’s work. I have some standards/rules around who I promote and who I don’t … that rhymed :) Here are some of my rules: I won’t promote anyone’s work that I haven’t personally experienced. I have to believe their work will not only work for me, but for the people in my audience -- thinking of my audience vs just my own results. I have to know their work well enough to be able to help any students that enroll through me with the program/results. I have to trust and love them as a person. I have to know they’re super supportive of their students. I have to know their work will compliment my work -- especially if I’m adding a bonus experience. I also have to take a really hard look at my promotional calendar for the year -- I’m doing this about a year in advance now {I’m sure it will shift a bit as I evolve and create my own new offers} so there’s only so much room to promote other people’s offers if I also want to make sure I’m not exhausting my list with launches. Part 4 My Support I always offer really supportive bonuses. Because with an affiliate launch, I’m offering this other person’s product/offer to MY list -- so I’m assuming that my list may have a desire to work with me as well and this is a great way for me to provide that extra level of support, and work with some new clients in a different capacity. The only way to work with my right now is a retreat that I’m going to be hosting in the summer -- which is limited to 12 peeps -- that’s not a lot! So with an audience MUCH bigger than 12 -- it’s an awesome way for some peeps who have been ready to work with me to get that opportunity while also working through a program, like Selena’s Impacting Millions that is going to get them insane results on it’s own. When I affiliate for something -- I’m always thinking about how I can help them get even BETTER results than they could with just the program itself. So, #1 -- I have to believe in the program and the results it gets on it’s own. But then #2 -- my affiliate bonuses are there purposefully to accelerate or compliment the results they’ll be getting through the main offer. This allows the students to surpass the mentor! And I love it! Part 5 Getting Personal. This is what I call the unrequired work. It looks really great and easy from the outside to have had some of the most successful affiliate launches in the business over the past year...but there’s a lot of work going into it behind the scenes. BECAUSE I CARE. I want the RIGHT people to enroll in the right program for them, so I take a lot of time during these launches to reach out to people individually and answer questions, give them feedback, and just help them through the decision making process. During Todd hermans first launch I sent out over 300 individual emails to people that had signed up for the free video series through me -- now I do that same thing with every affiliate launch -- I don’t always make it through the entire list of peeps who opted in -- but I sure do try! It does take a lot of time -- but it’s worth it for me because the right students enroll and the ones who aren’t a fit are able to have me help them figure that out HONESTLY. I love promoting good people who are doing great work in the world right now. So while, yes I do make an affiliate commission sometimes when selling an offer -- I really love and believe in these people and the work they’re sharing and will continue to take the time and energy to help and support them in anyway that I can. So this was a nice sneak peek behind the scenes this week -- Selena’s Impacting Millions program closes on Thursday -- March 30th and we’d BOTH love to support you inside! **Best Of 2016** 6 tips to fast track your success in 2016 - take these serious and the results will follow. 1. Let your vision, commitment, & drive guide you NOT your current circumstances or limitations or excuses. 2. To get energy you must do the work, and follow through on your word. When you hustle and get things done you create energy within to take even more action. 3. ALWAYS celebrate weekly progress over perfection. Being a perfectionist will cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars. Remember you want experiments, not perfection. 4. Make sure you are ONLY associating with those who hold you accountable, raise your standards, and challenge you to think bigger...NOT those people who let you off the hook. 5. **Best Of 2016** Mariah Coz has been building businesses since 2008. After being in a touring punk band for a few years, she decided she wanted income in between tours and got started online. She first started out on Etsy selling vintage clothes and sunglasses that she would find at thrift stores for a profit. This year I attended an event in Vegas that was the culmination of a program I worked through during Q1 of this year called 90 Day Year , with Todd Herman. Most business owners know that in order to be successful, they’ve got to set goals. But despite this, many business owners don’t actually do it. Of the business owners that do set them, just like New Year’s resolutions, most don’t follow through. There’s a whole load of reasons why you don’t achieve your goals, typically they are excuses. When you set big goals, many people feel a sense of overwhelm. Rather like standing at the bottom of a huge mountain, the size of the goal before you, just like the mountain, appears to be enormous. Instead, let’s use 90 day goals to eat the elephant one bite at a time. If you break a task or goal into smaller chunks, it’s a lot easier to achieve. Consequently, the most successful way for you to achieve a big goal is rather than creating a plan to tackle your goals for the year, is instead to focus on your goals for the next 90 days. So, having a goal for the year is great, but being really clear what you’re going to achieve in the next 90 days towards that big goal, makes it much more likely that you’ll achieve it. What’s more, having a smaller goal over a shorter period makes it much easier to get everybody to move forward at the same time. YOU NEED TO BE ACCOUNTABLE TO GET THINGS DONE. Want to know what I really think about the online entrepreneurship world?! There's a ton of good...tons of freedom, flexibility, creative spirit, profit potential, growth and leadership experience...the list goes on. #amiright?! Preaching to the choir, I'm sure...but I think there's also a HUGE problem. HOUSTON, we have a problem! And it could be the thing that's actually holding you back from getting bigger and faster results...ya know...the ones you're wondering why you're not currently getting?! The online entrepreneurship world is missing one of the critical elements that supports our success...accountability. You remember what that is, right? The participation grade you received in college for showing up to all your classes. The mid-term date that you couldn't push back. The manager that you said hello to at the coffee pot every morning before the team meeting. The quarterly goal setting that your company VP would approve. It also looked like this... The friend that texted you when you didn't show up for said class. The classmate that dragged you to go study before said mid-term. The office bestie that ran into your office to let you know your boss was in a mood today. The mentor that helped you identify what you needed to work on if you wanted to advance. And guess what...it even looked like this... The deadline for your thesis paper. The project timeline that couldn't be delayed without another budget approval. The end of year review that let us know if we were meeting, exceeding or falling short of the expectations. The very thing that we despised and dreaded about our previous roles is also thing that allowed us to BE the achievers that we are. Without deadlines or grades there is no OVER-ACHIEVING. Without milestones and recognition there is no BEST IN CLASS. Without accountability or support there is no SENSE OF URGENCY. I'm not just going to leave you hanging though...there are some ways to insert some accountability back into your business with love, not bitterness. The big difference though? YOU have to make the effort. No one else can decide this for you. You have to ask for it. Or create it. Or raise your hand. Okay...here's some great ways to build some accountability back into your life...in ways that won't feel like you're being strangled or back in corporate. Find a business bestie. Not your college roommate bestie...that won't work here, unless they're also an entrepreneur. You need someone WHO GETS IT. And NOT someone who is going to let you off the hook every time things get tough...that's not a true business bestie. Business besties listen, love and then require each other to execute at their highest potential. Where to find one? Reach out to someone that you resonate with in some FB groups or at a local networking event. Don't be shy... I met mine in a FB group in early 2015, we had a coffee chat and the rest is history! We now meet every Friday morning for a 5am accountability call and catch up sesh. We've even collaborated on events, webinars, and retreats! Join a mastermind. Masterminds are one of the BEST additions I've made to my business {both being in one and running them}. By definition, a mastermind is a combination of brainstorming, education, peer accountability and support in a group setting designed to sharpen your business and personal skills. It's build to help you and your mastermind counterparts achieve success. You challenge each other to set powerful goals, and more importantly, to accomplish them. The group requires commitment, confidentiality, willingness to both give and receive advice and ideas, and support each other with total honesty, respect and compassion. Your mastermind partners are catalysts for growth, devil’s advocates and supportive colleagues. I've seen the great power these groups can have from both participating and running them and recommend them to anyone who is at the Momentum or Leader phase of business. Where to find one? Some of your mentors may also facilitate masterminds OR you can create one on your own. I facilitate 2 different masterminds and we're enrolling new members now if this is something you've been seeking. You can apply here. Hire support. Now, support comes in many shapes and forms, so interpret this in whatever way is going to best serve you, but I'll give you a few examples. MENTOR -- support might be a mentor or coach that you meet with regularly to ensure you're challenging yourself enough and consistently moving towards your goals {and actually hitting them}. It's much easier to fall off the wagon when no one knows there was a wagon. This is an incredible layer of support to have if you want it. TEAM -- support might also come in the form of team members. When you have a team, you want to inform them of your goals and deadlines so that they can help keep you accountable to staying on track. While I don't think this is AS powerful as a mentor or coach {because essentially YOU are the boss, and can end up pushing back deadlines again...}, but it's still a great extra layer versus being alone in your own business vortex. Wherever you find this mentor -- just do your homework and make sure you're a good fit for each other. We need discipline to create freedom. For me personally, I EXCEL when I share my goals, have support, and surround myself with humans that will keep me accountable to my timely growth and success. I've done SCARY things to make sure that I've got all that setup in my life and business, scary things like: >> investing lots of money into the right mentor, >> sending messages to people who didn't know me from Adam asking them if they wanted to be accountability buddies, >> and my most recent scary move...asking some of my busiest, most inspiring, and most influential friends if they would join me for a peer retreat here in Florida. By NOT having these things in your life, you're NOT setting yourself up for success. You're not allowing yourself to excel. We are human... When left to our own devices, we procrastinate, we make excuses, we get distracted, we spin, we question ourselves, we lose perspective, we get overwhelmed...the list goes on. Accountability IS the backbone of your success. It's the thing that ties it all together. So, however you add some to your business...do it sooner than later. It’s your personal responsibility to use your voice. Fear is strong, but your leadership needs to be bolder. I was silent for so long...out of fear. I had these thoughts... HOW TO MAKE MORE THAN YOU INVEST... Had an insanely FUN day where my client and I mapped out her 2017 plans...including financial projections... Super fun when you see the entire investment she made in you returned to her {and then some} in the first month of next year. {note and tip: we'll be working together through December 2017, so her ROI will likely be 10-12x the investment -- this is always my target for pricing}. This is the power of strategic planning and investments that help you remove the unnecessary and focus on bigger ROI. The key to getting a big return on an investment is investing in the RIGHT THINGS. When you're mapping out your own goals and projections, identify the GAP. The GAP is the distance between your GOAL and the ACTION needed to make PROGRESS towards achieving it. There are 3 areas you may have a GAP and need to fill -- know this BEFORE you make an investment. GAPs: 1. Knowledge GAP {you don't know the techniques, strategies, tools, etc. at a knowledge level to be able to hit your goal}. 2. Action GAP {you know *what* to do, but aren't executing for one reason or another - lack of action can be related to needing accountability, support, or belief}. 3. Belief GAP {you don't believe your goal is possible...and therefore aren't executing or taking action}. Some investments can meet multiple GAPS, some just meet one very specifically. There is nothing wrong with that. There is nothing wrong with having a GAP - we actually ALL have one or multiples {otherwise we'd all have actualized all our goals already}. The KEY is knowing where your GAP is and investing in something that will help you close that gap. Mariah Coz has been building businesses since 2008. After being in a touring punk band for a few years, she decided she wanted income in between tours and got started online.
