EP35: Competence
Manage episode 381647744 series 3417259
In today's episode, we explore the profound link between competence and confidence. Drawing from my personal experiences, I share how pivotal moments in my life shaped my mindset and belief in my abilities. As a child, my father's words of encouragement instilled in me a strong sense of self-confidence. He created a safe environment where I could make mistakes and learn from them. This confidence grew as I became more competent in things that I loved doing, a principle that applies to all aspects of life. My father also taught me to embrace failure as a stepping stone to success, eliminating any regret of not trying.
As a parent now, I understand the value of demonstrating competence in something you love to your children. It builds their confidence and inspires them to pursue their passions. I recall my childhood spent in the enriching company of nature, exploring and learning about the world around me. I believe spending time in nature and following your passions can contribute to a better planet. Sharing your joy and confidence with others, whether you have kids or not, can be incredibly influential. Life is short and fleeting, so it's important to spend time doing what you love. It brings immense joy and health benefits, fuels your confidence, and encourages competence. The same principles apply to my experiences of learning to operate a grater under my father's guidance. This early experience instilled in me both competence and confidence, shaping my mindset and belief in my abilities.
