Manage episode 404867225 series 3467787
Louise Morrish is a historical fiction writer and librarian from Hampshire. She writes stories inspired by the lives of women in the past, who achieved extraordinary things, but whom history has forgotten.
Her debut novel, Operation Moonlight, won the Penguin Random House First Novel competition in 2019, and was published by Penguin Michael Joseph in 2022. Operation Moonlight is inspired by the female secret agents of the Special Operations Executive, whose brave exploits helped win World War II. Passionate about books, Louise also loves to trail run.
She is currently under contract to write two more historical novels for Penguin Michael Joseph. These next two are set in World War One, and are inspired by real women whom history has forgotten. “Women of War” will be published this September, and is inspired by three real women who achieved incredible things in WW1. The first, Dorothy Lawrence, was a young woman determined to become a journalist, who disguised herself as a soldier and fought for ten days at the front. The other two are doctors - Dr Louisa Garret Anderson and Dr Flora Murray – who ran pioneering, all-female-run military hospitals in France and England.
As someone who is passionate about books, Lou runs a number of bookclubs, and she supports Goldfinch Books in Alton in Hampshire with their author events. https://www.goldfinch-books.com/
