Shamanic work, cacao ritual, medicine music, mantra, yoga and aho! - the spiritual scene (New Age scene) is full of offers and expressions that are culturally appropriating.

What is an authentic spirituality in harmony with our ancestors?

In this eye-opening conversation social activist, author and artist Pegi Eyers is sharing with us

- what cultural appropriation is

- why it is harmful and probably the opposite of what people on the spiritual path intend

- what alternatives could be and how to restore healthy culture

- why it is so wonderful to connect deeper with your ancestors and ways to find your authentic spirituality

With many practical examples and questions from my life.

For example

- the meaning of the word „shaman“

- singing songs from other cultures

- using expressions such as „mitakuye oyasin“

- how to speak up when witnessing cultural appropriation?

Speaking with Pegi has given me a lot of hope, and curiosity to connect deeper with my ancestors. At the same time, understanding more about cultural appropriation has really shaken me, stirred up uncomfortable feelings of shame, guilt and grief. So be prepared if those feelings arise for you too. It is part of the process!

Please reach out to me whenever you feel like sharing something, let me know what you are taking from this conversation and what it inspires in you, what questions arise etc.
