The Successful Christian
Manage episode 354801018 series 3441596
Welcome to Unfamous, the podcast where unfamous pastors preach the fame of God. I’m your host, Cubby Westerberg. Our show is about listening to local, reformed pastors who minister to small congregations, faithfully expositing the Word and preaching from the Scriptures.
These unfamous pastors are unknown to basically everyone but their own congregation, so I want to introduce them to you. Today, I’m going to do something a bit different and introduce myself a little bit and share one of my sermons.
I was born and raised in Cambridge, Minnesota. I’ve been a part of my church since I was six years old, that’s when my dad became the pastor. It was called Dalbo Baptist back then, but now we are Cross Pointe. The Lord saved me when I was fifteen during a week at summer Bible Camp, and my life has never been the same since. I went to the University of Northwestern in Saint Paul, Minnesota where I got my English Education Degree. I also met my wife Sarah there, and we were married in our senior year of college.
After college, I went to The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and I crammed a four-year degree into 8 years while I worked at Cross Pointe. Now, I’m working with the youth group, leading worship, biblical counseling, and doing a lot of the “other” stuff that goes into making church happen.
I feel blessed to be a pastor at Cross Pointe, and I’m excited to see what God will do with this podcast. I’m hoping it will be a blessing to many small, rural churches in Minnesota.
I’m sharing a message with you today that I preached about three months ago. It’s about what it means to be a successful Christian. When it comes to the world’s standards, success is physical health and material wealth, but God’s standard of success is different. He wants to give us spiritual health and spiritual wealth. Let’s see what we can learn from Joshua 1:8.
