Can God change the course of history through a pagan king? The book of Ezra begins with a stunning proclamation from King Cyrus of Persia, allowing the Jewish exiles to return to their homeland and rebuild the temple. But why would a foreign ruler care about Israel’s God? The answer is simple—God was at work, directing history according to His plan. Over 150 years earlier, the prophet Isaiah had prophesied this very event, even naming Cyrus before he was born! This remarkable fulfillment reminds us that history is truly His-story, unfolding according to God’s sovereign will.

But the return to Jerusalem wasn’t just about a king’s decree; it was about the hearts of God’s people. Many Jews had grown comfortable in Babylon and chose to stay behind, but a faithful remnant was stirred by God to step out in faith. These returning exiles, though few in number, were the ones God would use to restore the land and rebuild His temple.

In today’s episode, Stephen Davey explores how God moves both rulers and ordinary people to accomplish His purpose. What does this mean for you today? It’s a reminder that no government, leader, or circumstance can thwart God’s plan. It also challenges us to examine our own hearts—are we too comfortable in “Babylon,” or are we ready to follow God wherever He leads?

Join us for this powerful lesson in faith, obedience, and God’s sovereign control over all things.
