Mimi Naja will inevitably be etched in annals of american music. Her style is unique but familiar, with no pretense, pragmatic to the core. I knew her first as a wide-eyed mando wunderkind ranging the grounds of Planet Bluegrass. In Fruition she’s grown into a telecaster-wielding rocker with no fear. She delivered a killer upright bassline on King of the Road, and a ripping mandolin break on Things in Life, but the highlights of this session are the songs she wrote and the brutal honesty of her interview.
