Welcome to a special series ‘Conversations That Count’ featuring Singapore-based professionals. This sunny island has been my home since 2009, so I’m excited to shine a spotlight on the inspiring residents I share this sunny island with!
About our guests:
Paula Barnes and Rachel Beausang are the hosts and producers of the Truly Expat Podcast. Paula, an Australian expat living in Singapore, has over 25 years of travel experience, sharing honest reviews, practical itineraries, and well-researched travel articles. Her passion stems from a love of helping others get the most out of their travel experiences.

Rachel, originally from New Zealand, left home at 18 and has spent the last 30 years living around the world, including the US, UK, and Italy. With a fresh degree in digital marketing, Rachel brings her passion for podcasting to the Truly Expat team.

We dove deep into the theme of "Finding Your Tribe." Here are three key takeaways that really resonated with me.

  1. The Power of Vulnerability: Paula shared a heartfelt story about how being vulnerable can create deep connections. She emphasized that when we open up about our struggles, it often encourages others to do the same. This creates a safe space for empathy and support, reminding us that we’re not alone in our experiences. It’s a beautiful reminder that vulnerability can be a strength, not a weakness.
  2. Never Say No: Rachel brought up a fantastic mantra: "Never say no to an event." This mindset encourages us to step out of our comfort zones and embrace new experiences. You never know who you might meet or what opportunities might arise when you say yes! It’s all about being open to connections and adventures, even when it feels daunting.
  3. Compassion is Key: Both Paula and Rachel highlighted the importance of compassion in our interactions. They reminded us that everyone has their own battles, and a little kindness can go a long way. By approaching others with empathy and understanding, we can foster deeper connections and create a more supportive community.

If you’re looking to expand your social circle or simply want to feel more connected, this episode is a must-listen.
