Welcome back to Episode 10 of the Record Report!
This week, we're reviewing Freddie Gibb and Madlib's first collaborative album, Pinata.
With the album dropping reasonably early in March of 2014, it quickly became a standout gem in a very buzzing year in music.
Pinata garnered critical acclaim thanks to a surprising blend of raw street rhymes from Gibbs with eclectic beats made by Madlib coated with Blaxploitation-themed skits and clips.
From hustling out the streets of Gary, Indiana to building a home for himself in California, Pinata talks about Freddie's life at the time of his early rise to Hip Hop glory. On the flip side, the project features an incredible set of Madlib beats that mold classic love ballads and jazz numbers into bangers that the rapper skates on.
Like we always do this time...
We choose our top 3 tracks, talk about Freddie and Madlib's organic connection throughout the project, and also discuss Freddie and Madlib's trajectory following Pinata's release.
