Kellina Powell is also known on social media as Deaf Queen Boss. Kellina, based in Canada, is a young woman on a mission to create more inclusivity for the deaf and hard of hearing community. At the age of 4, Kellina lost her hearing, but with the support of her family was able to cultivate her education in both the deaf and hearing communities. She now uses her skills as a Mental Health and Disability Coach educating, inspiring, and motivating others.
In this episode, we hear her story, the adversities she faced and overcame, and how Covid-19 even posed new difficulties for the Hard of Hearing community. Kellina is a force to be reckoned with and we know her vivacious energy and commitment to her community will continue to create so much value in the world!
This episode has also helped us take a stride to make our platform more inclusive and you can find the audio with closed captions of this episode (and more to come) on this channel. I was so grateful for Kellina, not only for who she is at such a young age, but also because she did inspire me to learn how to add closed captions to the YouTube videos.
To learn more about Kellina you can visit @deafqueenboss on Instagram. She is also a new author! Go check her (and her book) out today!
Thank you, Kellina, for the time you took to share your story and for what you are doing in the world for others who need to hear your voice! I am glad I was able to share the platform with you!
Please go subscribe to the Breaking Barriers Now podcast (on all podcasting channels), share it with others, and remember that together, we can do more!
You are also encouraged to subscribe to the Breaking Barriers YouTube channel (this channel). You can find out more about the host, Jodi Watkins, and the links to her channels, including this one, at https://linktr.ee/jodiwatkins.
