Manage episode 371782477 series 3495204
Today’s guest is a social entrepreneur, life coach, and lifelong learner. They have over 20 years of experience as a leader in construction management. Wamiq Hamid is the Vice President at DMY Engineering Consultants Inc. Wamiq shares how the view of leadership can evolve ad someone matures, how to approach the lofty responsibilities of leadership positions, and why partnerships can be a great way to reach your vision.
Takeaways:
- Early on in your career, it’s easy to equate someone with a lofty title with someone that is a great leader. In that same train of thought, you don’t need to have a title in order to be a leader.
- Providing your team with great leadership is not easy and it can take a while for business leaders to realize that. As your business grows, you can’t only think about money, you need to think about the people on your team.
- While leadership positions may come with a few perks, the important part is the responsibility that comes with those roles.
- Developing your team members into leaders requires you to have a firm belief in yourself and the vision you are setting out to achieve. You also must trust your team members and give them room to make their own mistakes.
- Partnerships are complicated, but if you have a big vision, you can go farther with a team than you can by yourself.
- The four stages of team development are Forming, Storming, Norming, and Performing. The process is not always smooth, but completing it can bear bountiful fruits.
- When working with partners, everyone will come with their own ideas and it’s ok if you don’t always agree on everything. However, when it’s time to make the final decision, you need to make sure that everyone is aligned.
